Zelda Rae Haddenham

October 4, 1945 — April 25, 2016

Zelda Rae Haddenham passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016 following a lingering illness.

She was the youngest of 7 children and the darling blackhaired daughter of Henry Harold
Haddenham and VeRetta Parker Haddenham. Zelda grew up in Pocatello attending school at Bonneville Elementary, Alameda Junior High and in 1963 graduated from high school with the largest and best class to ever leave Pocatello High School (go Poky). She had a short marriage to Larry Johnson but was able to maintain a friendship with him and his family following their divorce.

"Z", as she was known to all who loved her, immediately enrolled at the Southern Idaho College of Hairstyling. She excelled as a student and this began a career in cosmetology that spanned nearly 40 years. She worked at several salons in Pocatello including Bills Beauty Salon, Lela's Coiffeurs, Zelda's Salon and the Hen Hut, finally landing at Lee Reilly Hair Design where she and Lee formed a bond of friendship that lasted until her final breath. During those same years, Zelda also earned her instructors license. She taught and shared her talents at Webb's Beauty College, Lela's College of Hair Design (where she met her mentor and beloved friend Karl Nelson). Her career eventually took her to the ISU Cosmetology program. She began as a floor instructor and eventually become chairman of the Department, retiring from ISU in 2003. Zelda belonged to and held many offices in Pocatello Cosmetology Association, Idaho Cosmetology Association, Idaho Hair Fashion Committee, The New Dawn Chapter of Professional Women, and her beloved Poky High Class of '63 Reunion Committee. The past couple of years she became the BOSS of Thursday night dinner group – an ever-growing group of old friends and classmates that met for dinner every Thursday. It was the highlight of her week.

Zelda loved kids and though she had no children of her own, she was the "nother mother" to many. She was active in the lives of her nieces and nephews, particularly Dayna, Roquel and Jeremy, after they returned to Pocatello with their mother Eulene, a sister of Zelda's who is just a little than a year older. She spend lots of time going to parades, band concerts, dancing, gymnastics, Job's Daughters functions for her almost-kids Matt and Megan Reilly.

Zelda is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Laura Hall, McCammon; George Bucher, Seattle; Glenn Bucher, Pocatello; and Donna Wachal, Twin Falls. She is survived by sisters La Wanda Christensen, Twin Falls; and Eulene Redman, Pocatello; and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She loved them all.

Upon her retirement, Zelda found a new family at Calvary Chapel that led her to the Lord and brought a whole new joy to her life. Zelda loved kids, dogs, baking cookies and banana bread, dancing to 50's music, playing pinochle, but most of all she loved her family and friends, We'll miss you "Z".

A memorial service will be held Monday May 2, 2016 at Calvary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service at noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Special Olympics or Calvary Chapel School in her honor. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family under the "Share a Memory" tab on this page.
