Xavier F. “Bud” Servel, 85, passed away Thursday morning, January 8, 2009. He was the last surviving child of the pioneer Servel family.
Bud was born December 16, 1923 in Pocatello, Idaho, the 5th child of Xavier F. and Julia F. Servel. He attended Pocatello schools and enlisted in the Army in 1943 at the age of 19. He served in the European theater and was honorably discharged in 1945.
After his return, Bud began working for Garrett Freightlines and retired as purchasing agent in 1983 after 37 years of service.
Bud was married to Mary Jean Hargraves and they were later divorced. He married Barbara Jean Woodvine and later married Carole Lee Hanway, both of whom preceded him in death. An infant child also preceded him in death.
Bud later met his special friend Helen Williamson, and they were together until her death in 2006. Bud was a life-time member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Elk's Lodge being very active in their Christmas charity, and he was a 50-year member of the National Association for Amateur Radio.
Bud is survived by his;daughters, Joni Karber,Jerri Henry son, Gary Hanway; and grandchildren, Nicole Casper,Janessa McKibbin, Kimberly Mckibbin,Cody Karber. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, several extended family members and his dear friend, Dorothy Fica. Also surviving is his special companion, Skooter.
As per his wishes, no services will be held. He will be cremated and his ashes scattered in a private ceremony at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Rd.
