Winfield Arthur Macbeth, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 5, 2020 in Pocatello, Idaho. Win was born in Soda Springs, Idaho on October 26, 1945 to Donald Seaton Macbeth and Genevieve Wright Macbeth. He was the oldest of three children.
Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Pocatello. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1964 where he met the love of his life, Ginny Ann Thomas. They were married August 6, 1965 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They shared 54 wonderful years of marriage together. Their commitment and love for one another has been a tremendous example to their children and grandchildren. They have 6 children.
After they were married, Win attended Idaho State University majoring in business. Win received his draft notice, but chose to enlist in the United States Navy. After completing basic training in San Diego he was stationed just outside of Memphis, Tennessee. Later he was transferred to Pensacola, Florida to Helicopter Training Squadron Eight. He worked in Avionics and was a rescue swimmer. After 4 years of service he was discharged from the Navy and they returned to Pocatello. He worked with his Dad at Macbeth Plumbing while attending college. Win graduated from Idaho State University in 1973 with his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. When his father retired, Win took over the business. Later in life he was given the opportunity to work for Nielsen Engineering and worked there the rest of his professional career.
Win was a survivor. At a young age he contracted Polio. Later in his life he developed post-polio, but it never slowed him down. He has dealt with many health issues, the latest battling cancer. Despite his illness he always had a smile on his face, a kind word to say, and love to give to anyone that needed it.
Win was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served in many callings, loving others and the Lord. He had the opportunity to serve as a Bishop of the 51st Ward, which was for young adults. Later he served in another young adult ward serving as the Elders Quorum President. After that calling he was called to be the Bishop of the Victory Ward. He loved everyone, young and old. One of Win's favorite quotes is "The longer I serve in the church the more I understand that people need my friendship much more than they need my opinion." Win had a passion for reading anything that would increase his knowledge of the gospel.
Win bought a new red truck every 3 years. He enjoyed riding his ATV, motorcycles, convertibles, and even his lawn mower. He enjoyed playing and watching sports. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. You rarely saw him without a Reds hat on. Win had a great sense of humor and could always make you smile and laugh. The most important thing in his life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father & grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family and he would do anything for them.
He is survived by his wife, Ginny, daughter Heather (Jim) Woodland, daughter Rachel (Scott) Harris, daughter Samantha (Paul) Williams, son Scott (Missy) Macbeth, daughter Amanda (Jake) Rife, brother Stephen (Laura) Macbeth, sister Kathleen (Jeff) Hall. Granddaughters: Jessica, Brittney (Nick), Abbygail, Brooke, Kylie, Penelope, Matilda. Grandsons: Jimmy (Raelene), Ethan (Ashley), Jordan, Jonah, Seth, Porter, Tucker, Eli, Cooper, Zack, Ian, Garrett, Sullivan. Great-grandchildren: Wesley and another child on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Genevieve Macbeth and Win and Ginny's son, Michael Wess Macbeth.
As concern for the recent viral outbreak continues to rise, the Macbeth family has made the difficult decision to cancel the viewing on Friday evening and the funeral services on Saturday.
A celebration of life will be held as soon as public health risks have diminished. The Macbeth family wishes to express their gratitude for all the love and support expressed from friends and family members.
