William M. Haskett

March 10, 1940 — December 23, 2014

On the evening of Dec 23rd 2014, Captain William "Bill" Milton Haskett returned to his Father in Heaven at his home surrounded by his wife and all his children.

The son of Milton Oral Haskett and Helen Marian Wilson, Bill is the 2nd of 5 Children. Bill lived a life full of adventure. As a child he grew up fishing, hunting and trapping animals with his father. He continued to hunt and fish throughout his life, sharing this love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. The time he spent fishing from his boat was always the highlight of his summer.

Bill is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. While in his youth, Bill immersed himself in the scouting program, earning his Eagle Scout and the Explorer Silver Star award along with (2) memorable trips to National Scouting Jamborees in Valley Forge, PA and Irvine Ranch, CA. While a teen he excelled in football and was very proud to have lettered at both Franklin JrHS and Poky HS, and was even offered a scholarship to ISU.

While still in high school, Bill joined the Idaho National Guard. Shortly after graduating from Pocatello High School in 1958, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in both Germany and Korea as an enlisted soldier. Bill then returned to the Idaho National Guard where he earned his commission as an officer in 1965. Bill then rejoined the Army and went on to be stationed in Korea, Vietnam, Washington, Germany, Kentucky, and Colorado. Bill volunteered for (2) extended tours during the Vietnam War totaling (3) years, and completed (11) military campaigns. He served with 3/4 CAV and 2/22 INF with the 25th ID, along with the 2nd SQRD 11th ACR during Vietnam. While serving his country Bill would be awarded the Silver Star, (4) Bronze Stars [one with Valor], (2) Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses with Silver Stars, (3) Army Commendations [one with Valor], and (4) Purple Hearts for his wounds in battle. The results of some of those wounds would stay with him throughout his life.

While on leave from his first deployment to Vietnam in Dec of 1967, Bill was married to the love of his life, Phyllis Marler. Together they would have (4) children, who would eventually add (18) grandchildren into the family. Bill was a consistent part of everyone's life, he lived to talk to each and every one of his family to discover what was happening in their life. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Milton and Marion, along with his sister Helen and brother Terry. He is survived by his dear wife Phyllis and his sisters Sharon Fuhriman and Mary Stafford, along with his children Cheryl (Shay) Lewis, Thomas (Jennifer) Haskett, George (Bethany) Haskett, and Amy (Kreg) VanOrden.

There will be a public viewing at the Wilks Funeral Home on Friday Jan 2nd from 7-9pm. A memorial service will be held on the Jan 3rd at the LDS church located on the corner of Hawthorne and Quinn. Family and friends will gather together at 11am, with the service beginning at 12pm. A military graveside service will then be held at Mountain View Cemetery immediately after. All family and friends are then welcome to return to the church building for a luncheon. Please join us to celebrate his life and reunite with family and friends.

The family would like to thank the tireless efforts of the many veterans groups and members that support each other through the difficulties veterans face.
