William Leighton

W. A. (Bill) Leighton departed this earthly life to the arms of his Eternal Father on 29 June 2017. Bill passed away at the home he built, surrounded by his loving family, after a prolonged battle with a variety of health issues. Bill was born 22 October, 1938 in Grass Valley, California to James Arthur Leighton and Norma Lucille Darner, both of whom preceded him in death. Bill lived his life with gusto, honor and love, all of which he enjoyed sharing with his friends and family. Bill honorably served his country, first as a United States Marine, and then the United States Army. On August 5th, 1966, Bill married Beverly Robinson and her 5 children, a marriage and family that continue to thrive after 50 years. Bill retired from Local 182 of the International Brotherhood of Boilmakers, a profession he approached with the same gusto with which he lived his life. Before his health failed, Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman, sportsman and outdoors enthusiast. Bill was preceded in death by his sister Ruthann (Sandy) Christensen (Dee). Bill is survived by his brother Tim Leighton (Tammera) and grateful family, his wife of 50 years, Beverly, four sons Ronald Sortor (Loraine), Donald Sortor (Kelly), Rodney "Bim" Sortor (Kim), Rocky Sortor (Heidi), and a daughter Renae Sortor, as well as 12 grandchildren and scores of great grandchildren. Bill was greatly respected by everybody with whom he came into contact, a man of few words, but decisive action; a very good man. A visitation will be held on Wed. July 5, 2017 from 6:30-8:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Funeral services will be on Thur. July 6, 2017 at 11 am at the LDS Bannock Creek Ward Chapel, 4010 Hawthorne Rd. Chubbuck, ID 83202 (Corner of Hawthorne & Quinn Road), with a visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Military Honors.
