William "Bill" Mccloskey

William A. (Bill) McCloskey II, age 71, passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at Portneuf Medical Center surrounded by his loving family following a short but courageous battle with cancer. Bill was a vibrant and energetic husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. Bill was a friend to all he met and will be missed by all who knew him. He was born January 24, 1943 in Bloomsburg, PA to William A. McCloskey and Veronica (Verna) Dancho McCloskey. Bill graduated from Bloomsburg High School, attended Bloomsburg State College and served in the United States Air Force as an Airborne Maintenance Technician on EC-130 and B-52 aircraft. He served in Japan, Thailand, Florida and California. He left the service in 1970 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. In April of 1970, Bill met the love of his life, Ilene (Timi) Jenks. Bill and Timi were married August 1, 1970, and celebrated 44 years of marriage. They were blessed with two children Misti and John, and five grandchildren. Shortly after getting married, Bill separated from the Air Force and he and Timi moved to Pocatello, Idaho. Bill worked several different jobs after arriving here and in 1971 he began a 28 year career with the United States Postal Service. He started as a mail carrier and worked his way up through the ranks retiring in 1999, as the Director of Mail Processing. Despite a busy work schedule, Bill was very active in local youth sports programs especially youth soccer. Following retirement, he remained active with the youth as a classroom volunteer at Indian Hills Elementary School. He worked with the students in math and reading but more importantly, he gave them the extra love and encouragement that they needed to succeed. He did this for 10 years and was known to the students as "Mr. Bill." Bill loved children and they loved him. When they were little, he always carried his grandchildren to the car. When family and friends came to visit, he met them on the driveway and welcomed them. When it was time to leave, he walked them to their car. Bill has been the mainstay in his family. He loved the outdoors. His hobbies included boating, golf, camping, and football. He was an avid football fan especially when it came to Penn State and Notre Dame. He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports and seldom missed a game. Bill and Timi loved to travel. They took many of their trips with Timis sister, Maxine, and her husband, Bob. Just like at home, when he traveled he would stop and make friends with everyone he met. We always teased him that everywhere he went he was running for mayor. Timi and Bill took several cruises (Alaska, Mexico, and Hawaii), loved the Northeast in the fall, Hawaii in the winter and made numerous trips to Pennsylvania to visit family and friends. On his 65th birthday his family surprised him with his dream trip, a trip to Ireland. He loved every minute of the trip and was planning to make a return trip with his son as soon as he got well. He is survived by his wife Timi, daughter Misti (David) Coffin, son John McCloskey, father- in- law Kenneth Turner, all of Pocatello, ID; mother Veronica "Verna" McCloskey, Bloomsburg, PA; brothers Michael (Rene) McCloskey, Bloomsburg, PA; Daniel (Sandy) McCloskey , Venice, FL; Timothy (Lisa) McCloskey, Williamsport, PA; sister Marianne (Louis) DiPippa, Berwick, PA; five grandchildren, Whittney, Braxton, Jace, Braydon, Kaidan, many nieces and nephews and faithful pet, Sammy. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William A. McCloskey, mother-in-law Judy Turner, and father-in-law Max Jenks. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 208-233-1500 and again on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 10 to10:45 AM prior to services also at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11 AM at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Pocatello ID.
