On Monday, May 1, 2023, William D. Anderson died at the age of 86 at his daughter’s home in La Quinta, California.
Bill was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1937, to Melvin and Gladys Anderson. When he was three years old, they moved to Ontario, Oregon, then on to Caldwell, Idaho, and finally settled in Pocatello in 1950.
In 1953, when he was just 16 years old, he joined the Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California.
After the war, he attended Idaho State University under the Korean GI Bill and took a machinist course for 2 years. He landed a job with Boeing Aircraft in Hoquiam, Washington working on Minuteman Missiles. He married Gloria Hayball and adopted her son, Mike. They had Cherylee, who passed, then they had Julie.
In 1970, Bill ran the KOA Campgrounds in Lovelock, Nevada and met his second wife, Nora Bazan. They had two daughters, Andrea and Liberty. They opened up a KFC in Elko, Nevada.
In 1989, he moved to Las Vegas and became a slot tech, where he worked until his retirement in 2003. He moved back to Pocatello in 2006 where he enjoyed the things he loved to do; fishing, hunting, and riding quads, motorcycles and snowmobiles. He also enjoyed crafting in his woodshop.
Bill is survived by his four children, Mike Patten of Blackfoot, Idaho; Julie Yeates of Fort Hall, Idaho; Andrea Padilla of La Quinta, California; and Liberty Robitaille of Pocatello, Idaho; three sisters, Betty (Ty) Anderson; Nancy (Ken) Christiansen and Linda Acosta, all from Pocatello, Idaho; six grandchildren and six great grand babies.
Bill is preceded in death by his first born, Cherylee; wife, Gloria; his brother, Melvin, Jr., and his parents, Melvin and Gladys Anderson.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S 5th Ave, Pocatello, ID. A Celebration of Life will follow at 5:00 pm at the Veterans Memorial Building, 300 N. Johnson Ave, Pocatello, ID 83204
