Wesley Glenn Damron

October 28, 1924 — January 4, 2022

Wesley Glenn Damron of Pocatello, passed away in his home January 4, 2022, at the age of 97.

Glenn was born October 28, 1924, in Pocatello, Idaho to Lavina Marie Pickett and Wesley Mahonri Damron in a little house on the 100 block of North 9th. He was raised in Pocatello and attended schools in both Pocatello and California. In 1942, he married Rosalie Mortenson and together they had 1 son, Wesley Martin. This marriage later ended in divorce.
Glenn was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and was sent to Fort Knox, Kentucky for boot camp with the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion. In March 1944 they were sent to the European Theatre. The battles and campaigns he was involved in were Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged from the Army in November 1945.

He met Evaune Elizabeth Dye in 1945 at a dance and asked her out. They were married March 4, 1947, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They had 2 children together, Kathleen Evaune and Barton Glenn.

He served in the United States Army National Guard from January 1949 to November 1967 and retired as first Sergeant. He enjoyed the Guard and the people he served with. He started working for Union Pacific Railroad October 1950. He started as a Carman Helper, then later worked as a Carman and Locomotive Cab Carpenter. He retired from the Railroad in October 1986. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen of American #94 and served as a Griever for the Union. He was also a member of the Pocatello Railroad Employees Federal Credit Union. He was elected to the Credit Committee, later serving on the Board of Directors for many years including serving as its President. He was also a member of the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion Association, serving as its president from 2002 to 2016.

Glenn liked to do spur of the moment things, like take a drive that somehow ended in what can only be described as an "Adventure". Almost any time something unexpected happened, such as getting lost, it became an adventure. He also loved to be on the water and enjoyed going boating during the summer with his wife, children, and grandchildren. When his son, Barton decided he wanted to learn to ski, Glenn took up skiing so Bart would have someone to go with. He discovered Dixieland Jazz while on a hunting trip in the early 90s. He regularly attended Dixieland Jazz Festivals where he and Evaune listened to good music, danced, and made a lot of friends.

Glenn was fun loving, a tease, and sometimes at family reunions, he would be the one starting water fights and wading in the creek with the kids. He and Evaune traveled to Europe twice, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, and many states in the United States. He loved life and often said when he woke up in the mornings and looked out the window, "What a wonderful world we live in". He would often sing and whistle as he got ready to greet the day. He was a very happy fellow.

After Evaune passed away, he met Norma Stejer. They enjoyed 10 years of companionship, travel, and dancing. Unfortunately, their relationship ended due to age, distance and health.
He was a kind, caring man who was a good husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed very much.

He is survived by his sister, Joy Linguist, Fairfield, California, son, Marty (Deanna) Myers, Edgewood, New Mexico, daughter, Kathleen Galloway, Pocatello, Idaho, brother-in-law, Therral Dye, Boise, Idaho, Norma Stejer, Spokane, Washington 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Barton Glenn Damron, wife, Evaune Damron, grandson, Barton Richard Galloway, great-grandson, Wesley Scott Farnsworth, brothers-in-law, Milt Linguist and Odell Dye, and sister-in-law, Lola Lewis.
