Wendie B. Mortensen

September 9, 1951 — April 13, 2024

Wendie B. Mortensen, 72, lost her courageous battle with breast cancer on Saturday, April 13, 2024.


Wendie was born on September 9, 1951, in Montpelier, Bear Lake County, Idaho to Arrin LeRoy “Roy” Bosch and Mary Ann Humphreys. She was the oldest of three daughters. She lived in Nampa and Caldwell Idaho before settling with her parents and sisters in Pocatello, Idaho. Her father was a conductor, brakeman for the UPRR.


Wendie attended Tendoy Elementary school, Alameda Junior High and Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho. After her senior all-night party, she left for her summer job in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at Grand Teton National Park. At the end of her summer job, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend LDS Business College.


It was in Salt Lake that she was introduced to her future husband, David Mortensen, by some mutual friends. They were married on June 16, 1973 in the St. George LDS Temple. To this union they added five children, three boys and two girls. Wendie and her husband lived in Utah and Arizona before settling in Pocatello, Idaho.


Wendie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.


Wendie enjoyed square dancing, doing macrame, traveling, playing bingo at St. Anthony Place, going on road trips. She LOVED to travel!!


Wendie was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, in-laws, one sister Sudie Ward and two grandbabies.

Wendie is survived by her five children, Joseph (Terry) Mortensen Eugene, Oregon, Jennifer (Bart) Jenson Chubbuck, Idaho, Sam (Justina) Mortensen Boise, Idaho, Rachel Mortensen Missouri, and Jonathan (Lyn) Mortensen Rupert, Idaho; ten grandchildren Austin, Ashlynn, Colby, Ethan, Brendan, Riley, Decon, M.E., Maxwell and Eleanor and numerous nieces and nephews.


The family of Wendie would like to Thank Dr Anderson, Dr Callaghan and all of the nurses at Portneuf Cancer Center for the care and compassion shown to our mom; Heritage Home Health & Hospice Care Connection of Idaho; care giver Casey Champion and her Bingo buddies.


A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd., Chubbuck, Idaho 83202.

Services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 at 11 am with a viewing from 9:30 am-11 am, also a Wilks Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at the Whitney Cemetery in Preston, Idaho.
