Wendell Sparks

December 12, 1933 — April 2, 2017

On April 3, 2017, J. Wendell Sparks passed away at home after a lingering illness.

Wendell was born Dec 12, 1933 at the home of his maternal grandparents in Richmond, Utah. He was the fifth of eight children born to Ray and Donna Mendenhall Sparks.

Wendell was raised in Clarkston, Utah. He attended grade school in Clarkston, and high school at North Cache High in Richmond. He left school during his junior year to enter the work force. Wendell became a skilled mechanic, welder, and truck driver. He served in the National Guard from 1957 to 1963.

While serving at Fort Chaffe, Arkansas he attained his GED. In 1965 Wendell, and Janeal Forsberg Stone, were married. With this union came a ready made family, a son Steven Lee, and daughters Jeraldine, and Sheryl. Another son, Jay Wendell, followed.

In 1966 the family moved to Pocatello where Wendell drove fuel truck. Wendell was an avid golfer and played almost daily with the "Nooners" at Riverside golf course for more than 30 years. On weekends he and Janeal would travel to play in couples tournaments.

Wendell is survived by his wife Janeal, son Steve (Karen) Sparks of Pocatello, daughter Jeri (Dave) Hardy of Harrisville, Utah, daughter Sheryl (Jim) Davies of Pocatello, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, brother Ray Arthur Sparks, sister Virginia Veals, brother David Mick Sparks, and brother Seth M Sparks. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alan Boyce, brother Ronald, brother Bryan William, and son Jay Wendell.

The family wishes to acknowledge the care and compassion of Kristy, Clint, and Alex from Access Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Pocatello LDS Stake Center, 655 South Grant Avenue in Pocatello. A viewing will be held prior to services on Friday starting at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Road.
