Wayne Turner

Wayne Whitney Turner lost his battle with metastatic rectal cancer on 12/06/2019. He fought longer and harder than most people would ever do. He was such a brave and courageous soul. Wayne was born 5/8/1951 in Inglewood, CA. He grew up in California with his sister, Lynne, last living in Anza California. Graduating from Hemet High School in 1969 he didn't want to be drafted so he enlisted in the Air Force. After serving for 5+ years teaching survival training, he left the military with the rank of Sergeant. In 1974, while still in the military, he married Patricia and they had a beautiful daughter, Shauna. They later divorced and he went on to college after he left the Air Force. With a degree in hand he went off to conquer the world. Computers became his passion and he worked with them for a while writing codes and programs. Next, it was construction and other jobs in that field. He lived in many states with various jobs even a limo driver. He owned several pool halls with his friend Bob Harmon, the last one being in Kansas. Pool was his new passion which he carried the rest of his days. After moving to Pocatello with his wife, Charlene, he started working for Home Depot. In September of 2011, his wife, Charlene passed away. In May of 2015, he married Karen Hill. Just a month after they were married he was diagnosed with his cancer and had to retire from Home Depot from a job he loved. He really loved riding his Harley alongside his wife Karen (with her on her own bike). Riding with other bikers and interacting with many different types of bikers was the most fun! He was very giving and never wanted recognition for that. He would refurbish old computers and give them away to others that had none. Anything dealing with the Veterans was always first on the list. The Freedom LZ transition home for the Vets, he helped redo with Home Depot, was one of his most favorites. Giving money and time, especially time was so important to him. He was a member of the American Legion, BCA (pool) and the NRA. He loved to play pool and was in several leagues over the years. When the treatment got too hard for his body he could not play anymore and that was devastating to him. The last 2 years he was a political junky and Facebook was his source of interaction. He spent many hours debating about politics and life to anyone who wanted to share. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Helen (Lapczenski) and Lyman Turner; his brother-in-law, Fletcher Jackson; his wife, Charlene Turner; and his daughter's mother, Patricia Binder. Wayne is survived by his wife, Karen (Hill) Turner; his daughter and son-in-law, Shauna and Don Stewart; and his sister, Lynne Jackson. He is also survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Heather and Andrew Elam, Heidi (Hill) and Guy Curtis, and son, Gary Hill; his brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Kim Kessel, and Paul and Mickie Zuiderveld; 5 beautiful granddaughters and grand dogs too. Plus Brodie and Cheyenne, our dogs extraordinaire. Also...many friends too numerous to add! He so wanted to go to Hawaii but never made it so Hawaii is coming to him. His celebration of life is a Hawaiian party. Wayne is going out in style! It will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 starting at 2 pm with a formal moment at 4 pm. It will be held at a private residence so contact the family for an address if you would like to attend. Wayne's family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. David Ririe, Jennifer and all the beautiful nurses at the Portneuf Cancer Center. Without them, he would have never made the 4 1/2 years. Also, special thanks to Heritage Hospice, especially nurse Angela, for taking wonderful care of Wayne in his final days. In lieu of flowers, please donate to someone who needs it more then you! Wayne was loved by all who knew him. He will be truly missed...GOD Speed Wayne!!
