Warren Davis

d. January 29, 2018

Warren James Davis, 78, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 at his home. Warren was born in Evanston, Illinois the son of Ardith Paul and Sarah Louisa (Ridgway) Davis on April 24, 1939. His family moved to northern Indiana in 1940. Warren received his elementary through high school education in Argos, Indiana, graduating in the class of 1957. He attended Purdue University and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in May 1964. Warren married Susan Lahman in June 1962, and to this union three children were born. They were later divorced. He then married Tina Sturdevant in 1977 which also ended in divorce in 1994. In May 1995, he married his lasting love, Sally Erickson Wiegand. Warren was born with a very strong work ethic! After graduating from Purdue, he started work with a veterinary group practice in Illinois, but was almost immediately drafted into the US Army for two years, serving mostly in San Pedro, California. After exiting the service, he practiced large and small animal veterinary medicine in several Indiana communities. He set up his own small animal practice in Valparaiso, Indiana for many years before retiring at the early age of 49 and moving to a rural acreage near Emmett, Idaho where he built an earth-sheltered home. After being out of practice several years, he took state licensure exams for the second time and did relief work for many veterinary practices across southern Idaho. Before retiring again at age 60, he worked for the Idaho Humane Society in Boise, primarily performing surgeries. In his youth, he was a member of the FFA and then a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity at Purdue. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pocatello, Idaho and served on several committees as well as being a Session member. He hunted deer, elk, caribou, moose, and antelope in Alaska, Idaho, and Colorado, etc. Warren and Sally spent 10 summers fishing in Alaska for salmon, halibut, and shrimp. He enjoyed woodworking, building and remodeling structures, repairing, mending, sewing, cooking and baking. He also enjoyed landscaping and antique auto and tractor restorations. Warren and Sally traveled to many countries, including Canada, France, Mexico, China, Tibet, Peru, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Australia, New Zealand, and six African countries, Holland, Belgium, England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Warren was a "people person" with a way of putting people at ease with his conversational skills. When he saw a need another lives, he would "jump right in" to help find or create solutions. Warren is survived by his wife, Sally J. Davis, Pocatello, Idaho; son, Michael Dean Davis, West Lafayette, Indiana; daughters, Amy Beth (Davis) Stewart, Bendersville, Pennsylvania, Carrie Ann (Davis) White, Valparaiso, Indiana; sisters, Margaret (Davis) Keys, Springfield, Virginia, his twin sister, Elizabeth (Davis) Granby, San Diego, California; step-daughters, Danika Wiegand, West Babylon, New York, Tasha Wiegand, Seattle, Washington; 4 grandchildren, and 4 step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Ardith Paul Davis and his mother, Sarah Louisa Davis. Warrens wife and family would like to express our deep gratitude to all of the staff at the Portneuf Cancer Center for giving him 11 years of quality time which he filled to the brim. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 202 S. 7th Ave, Pocatello, ID 83201 (7th and Lewis St.) at 11 am.
