Wanda M. Smith Lyon, age 100, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012 at Highland Hills Care Center. Wanda was born April 6, 1912, in Sharon, Idaho, near Montpelier, daughter of William K. Smith and Delpha Arnell Smith. As a child she attended a one room school house. She married James H. Lyon on the 24th of December, 1930, and together they raised 5 children; Donna, Kay, Laurel, Gerrie and Dee. She was employed by Woolworth's and then later worked many years and retired from Garrett Freightlines in their office doing clerical work. She loved to sing with the Sweet Adelines and also enjoyed playing pinochle. She was a visiting teacher for 72 years and held many positions in the church. When she couldn't go to church the visiting teachers would come and visit her and the priesthood would bring her sacrament. She loved to fish, hunt, camp, and spend time with her 6 generations of family. She was an avid baseball fan. She is survived by daughter Donna Bowman of Chubbuck; daughter Gerrie (Jerry) Sly of Boise, ID; daughter Dee (Larry) Goodson of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter Laurel (Lionel) Bowen of Walnut Creek, CA; sister Lois Larsen of Pocatello; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-great-grandchildren, and 6 step-great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, three sisters, one brother, one grandson, one granddaughter, two great-grandsons, and one great-great-grandson. We would like to thank everyone at Highland Hills for the loving care that was given to our mom. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service. Burial will follow services at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Idaho Youth Ranch, PO Box 8538, Boise, ID 83707.
