Wallace "Wally" Savage

Wallace "Wally" Stanley Savage passed away on December 15, 2013 in his home from natural causes at 84. Wally was born on November 9 th, 1929 in Dietrich, ID and lived as a young child in the small town of Springfield, ID. Wally was primarily raised by his elder siblings due to the passing of his mother Rosetta (Barker) Savage during childbirth and later his father, Marion Cornelius Savage, at age 8. The siblings were all called upon to carry their own weight in both the financial and daily functions of the household. While attending high school, Wally drove the local school bus in order to support himself. Wally obtained outstanding work habits, ethics and personal traits from his childhood that contributed to success throughout his entire life. Wally graduated from Aberdeen high school where he also participated in sports. Particularly, he was a top performer on the basketball team. After high school, Wally enlisted to serve our country in the United States Navy and was trained as a pattern maker. Wally was honorably discharged from the Navy in April of 1954. Post Navy, Wally married and had six children: Cindi (Savage) Patrick (Rob Patrick), Ann (Savage) Bennett (Bob Bennett), Randy Savage (Shelley Savage), Suzette (Savage) Brinkley (Gary Brinkley), Sandra (Savage) Hawkes (Kim Hawkes), Royce Savage (Julee Savage), whom he held dear in his heart until the day of his passing. On September 8, 1972 Wally married Jacquelyn "Jackie" (McGaugh) Frazier and began a journey of many cherished moments that would carry them to this day. Wally's commitment of marriage to Jackie (native and local business person in Pocatello, ID) also included the commitment and support of four stepchildren: Doug Frazier, Teresa "Teri" (Frazier) Welch, Jerre (Frazier) Wise and Lloyd Frazier. In this role of his life, Wally set an example over the past 42 years as a husband and step- father to a level of which all should strive. Following his return from the Navy, Wally opened his own furniture store in Aberdeen, ID. With his many carpentry skills, he was able to help many within his community throughout his lifetime. Wally was the sanitation manager at Lamb Weston for 12 years until he opened Best Way Pest Control in 1973. Wally was a successful entrepreneur and member of Chamber of Commerce until he sold Best Way Pest Control in 2012. Wally supported the Bengal Foundation and was a season ticket holder for the ISU Football team. He was elected president of the local American Legion Baseball committee in 1980 and together with his father in law he helped build, and donated the concession stand at the Halliwell baseball park in Pocatello, ID. Wally enjoyed golfing, and spent many hours on the golf course at their home in Sun City West, AZ, and in Pocatello, ID. Wally was especially good at bowling. He once won a shotgun and cash in a tournament. He had a great love, and artistic eye for landscaping. He loved yard work and as a result, he won the Golden Arrow award in Pocatello, ID in 2011. Wally was very personable, fun loving, and had a great sense of humor. He once won a beard-growing contest in Aberdeen, ID. In return Wally created many lifelong relationships and friendships that crossed numerous borders of this country. However, more often than not, Wally enjoyed taking part in conversation locally over a cup of morning coffee at businesses such as the old "Karen Lanes" on Main Street and more recently Butter Burrs on Yellowstone. Wally is preceded in death by his mother Rosetta (Barker) Savage, 1892-1929, father Marion Cornelius Savage, 1885-1937, brother Cecil Brigham Savage, 1909-2004, brother Marion Mathew Savage, 1911-1980, sister Florence Elizabeth Savage, 1916-1989, brother Clifford Orlando Savage, 1916-1991, brother Marvin Ray Savage, 1918-2004, brother Arthur Fay Savage 1920-1945, brother Frank Barker Savage, 1923-1944, sister Zella Learna Savage, 1928-1978. Wally is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Savage, brother, Lester John Savage (Challis, ID), 6 children, 4 stepchildren, 31 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren. Services will be held on January 2 nd , 2014 at the Colonial Funeral Home located at 2005 S. 4 th Ave., Pocatello, ID. Family will receive friends at 11:00 AM with funeral services commencing at 12:00 PM. Graveside service to immediately follow together with a luncheon for family and friends at Johnny Creek Ward located at 5425 Bannock Hwy Pocatello, ID.
