Vondell Lowe, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at a medical center in Pocatello, ID. Her loving husband and broken hearted family members were by her side. She was born on August 29, 1937 to Ezra Brantley Bond and Winnie (Herring) Bond in Beaumont, Mississippi. Vondell was the eldest of eight children. She grew up in a God loving, hardworking, depression era home; where family and community were the staples of life. Vondell, the daughter of a no-nonsense commercial fisherman, was raised fishing the rivers, hunting and playing in the woods and swamps of South Central Mississippi. She survived floods, tornados, snakes, etc. when times were still hard. Vondell helped her mother raise her many siblings and when she was 15 years old, she spent her summer as the cook at a nearby work camp. She loved her mother, sisters and brothers deeply and worshipped the very ground that her "Daddy" walked upon. Vondell married the year she graduated and left Mississippi as her husband, an Airman, was transferred to Great Falls, Montana. It was there that she gave life to the first of their three children, her precious Donald Brantley, followed in the next two years by his little sisters, Audrey Lynn and Patricia Jean; both of whom she adored. Later, after Vondell and her husband divorced, she landed in Pocatello, ID where she would later meet her beloved husband, James L. "Mont" Lowe. She was proud of the fact that until she met Mont, she raised three toddlers without a dime of child support, welfare or charity. She was loving, caring, smart, shrewd and ambitious. Vondell and Mont soon had a son together, Howard Lamont. As her own children were raised and began leaving the nest, she began to receive the greatest blessings of her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vondell loved to garden and tend to her flower beds. She enjoyed family camping and fishing trips and taking the children to the swimming pool. As an amazing cook, her family loved when she would have back yard cook outs, holiday dinners and her famous fish frys. Her southern fried chicken is legendary. No one left Vondells house hungry. Vondell was preceded in death by her mamma, Winnie Bond; daddy, Ezra Bond; brothers, Edward Bond, Charlie E. "Jack" Bond; son, Donald Gilman; daughters, Audrey Lynn Gilman Enlow, Patricia Jean Gilman Bryant; niece, Robbie Lee Bond; nephews, Westley Allen Hill and Jefferson Allen Lovelace. She is survived by her husband, Mont Lowe; son, Howard Lowe; grandsons, Michael Gilman, James Lowe, Brock Gilman and Branch Enlow; granddaughters, Samantha Gilman Lovan, Brittnee Lowe, Summer Enlow Calabro, Heather Lowe; and the true apples of her eye, a flock of great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Sue Kittrell, Katie Charlotte "Polly" Hill, Mary Alice Webb, Celeste Josephine "Josie" Girouard and Rhonda Lee Deuitt. Each of her family can probably say that at some critical point in our lives it was Vondell who was there to make a difference. Here are a few thoughts from the family: Samantha- "Her advice has guided me and kept me grounded. She will always be my backbone and I know every day that she is proud of me and she loves me!" Summer- "Gods garden is more beautiful today. He only takes the best for His empty space." Branch- "She would be the first to make you laugh if you were down. She was the best at doing little things just to let you know you were loved." Her "Best Boy" great-grandson, Brantley Gilman, sums up her love so perfectly- "Vondell was an amazing woman with a big heart and an attitude to match. She gave her all to support those in need with a side of southern cooking to go with it. In the end, blood didnt mean family, love meant family." A memorial in her honor will be held in June, her favorite time of year. Please contact Howard Lowe, 208-790-0781, for details. Until then, Vondell will be rejoicing with the Lord in Heaven and with all the loved ones she has been missing for so long. We here will be grieving the loss of this great woman with all the pieces of our hearts.
