Vonda Lucille Wilson died peacefully in her home in Chubbuck, Idaho on December 15, 2021, at 66 years of age after an extended illness.
She was born in Blackfoot, Idaho to Henry E. Jemmett and Ruby C. Reeder. Vonda was seventh of eight children: Josie (Calvert) Christensen, Edward (Linda) Jemmett, Wayne (Diane) Jemmett, Reena (Jim) Cook, Connie (David) Johnson, Martha (Paul) Tew, and Steven (Marla) Jemmett.
She married John Nolan Wilson in 1978 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are the parents of four children: Aaron (Devony) Wilson, Adrianne (Michael) Miller, Alexander (Roberta) Wilson, and Garth (Kiery) Wilson. They are also blessed to have eight grandchildren: Sydney, Madelyn, Jack, Lilly, Jackie, Henry, Ayla, and Kennedy.
When she was five years old she moved with her family to Arimo, Idaho, where she lived with her family through her formative years. She graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 1973. After receiving a vocational certificate from Idaho State University, she held a few jobs and particularly enjoyed working in a jewelry store in Pocatello, Idaho.
At age 20, Vonda was diagnosed with cancer, from which she recovered, but was subject to a variety of substantial health issues the remainder of her life. This included a second bout of cancer and a ruptured brain aneurism 21 years ago. Though these trials left her with compromised cognitive abilities, she continued to live her life following the council she received from her mother; and frequently passed on to her children and grandchildren. That is, often saying when confronting difficulties, “You can do hard things.” None of her medical circumstances stopped her from enjoying and taking pride in being a wife, mother, and homemaker.
Vonda and her family were particularly proud of her pursuit to become a published author. Prior to her debilitating brain injury, she had completed two novels and was eagerly working on a third. She accomplished her goal and published the book McCallan’s Justice in 2001.
In 2016, Vonda and John fulfilled a lifelong goal to serve a mission together for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They served at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, Utah supporting the Perpetual Education Fund. Through their service, they made many dear friends and supported countless individuals in less fortunate circumstance throughout the world. Vonda was a lifelong member of the Church, and held both her membership and testimony of Jesus Christ as some of her most cherished possessions.
Most of her adult life was spent in the Idaho Falls, Idaho area, but she and John also lived in Utah, to be near their daughter Adrianne while serving their mission. They also lived in Aurora, Colorado, near their son Aaron. In late 2020, they moved to Chubbuck, Idaho to be closer to John’s mother, their siblings, and their son Garth.
Vonda is proceeded in death by her mother and father and her eldest sister, Josie.
