Vicki Hess

September 26, 1947 — May 23, 2015

Vicki Jean Hess passed away peacefully following a brief illness on May 23, 2015 surrounded by her family.

Vicki was born on September 26, 1947 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Alfred Peck and Mary (Mae) Hardy Peck, the fourth of five children. She grew up and attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1965.

Vicki married Craig Rawlings in September of 1965, they were later divorced. On January 30, 1967 Vicki gave birth to her first son, Chad, who passed away after only four days. On September 7, 1968 she gave birth to Duane in Pocatello and later on a U.S. Military Base in Dannenberg, West Germany, she gave birth to her daughter, Shelly on March 5, 1971.

Shortly after Shelly's birth, the family moved back to Pocatello and into a house where the west side of Garrett overpass now stands. Later they bought a new home in the Stuart Park subdivision in Chubbuck. On November 19, 1977 Vicki married her soulmate, the love of her life, Gary Hess. Gary brought three kids of his own, Bobbie, Jennifer and Brandon. They were now officially the Hess Mess! Gary and Vicki were inseparable for the remainder of their time together. They were very much in love and enjoyed the simple joys of a drive, camping, fishing, or just sitting together in front of their house with a cold beer waving and talking with everyone who passed by.

Vicki began her career with Mountain Bell, a job she held until the Hess Mess was created and she wanted to spend more time at home with the kids. She began babysitting kids in the home for additional income and then later went to work at the Key Bank branch on the corner of 4th and Center where she was a teller for the drive up window. She eventually took a job with the Bannock County Assessor's Office, a job she kept until her health no longer allowed. She cherished the friends that she made at the Assessor's Office and loved working with every one of them.

The greatest love of Vicki's life was her family. She loved her kids and considered all of their friends her kids as well. She always gave and received hugs wherever she went by someone running up to her and calling her "Mom". Life got even better for her when her grandkids arrived. She loved nothing more than being around her grandkids. Every birthday or Mother's Day she would say she didn't care what we did, she just wanted to be around family.

Vicki is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mae Marie Anderton, and a son, Chad Rawlings. She is survived by her brothers, Bud (Carol) Peck, California; Larry Peck, Mackay; sister Linda, Inkom; her children, Duane (Jennie) Rawlings, Pocatello; Shelly (Shaun) Jones, Inkom; Bobbie Schwartenberger, Spokane, WA; Jennifer (Greg) Phillips, Spokane, WA; Brandon (Tricia) Hess, Hayden Lake; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
