May 31, 1932 — March 15, 2020

Vern Eugene Murray, 87, passed away on March 15, 2020 in Rexburg, Idaho after an extended illness.

Vern was born on May 31, 1932, to Andrew Hugh and Tressie Leora Dow Murray. Vern was born at home on the Buckle Ranch in Jensen, Utah without the help of a doctor or a midwife. Vern had two brothers and two sisters. His family was resourceful and lived off the land. Vern learned the value of hard work while living on his parents' 365 acre ranch. During his young years, he loved to fish and hunt. Additionally, he was an excellent marksman.

On October 14, 1952, Vern was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country on Outpost Harry Korea in the Combat Infantry. His roles included: manning a Browning automatic rifle, chauffeuring his lieutenant, and transporting soldiers by vehicle up rocky terrain. He received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and Combat Infantry Badge. Vern served in Korea until October 14, 1954. He was transferred from active duty to the reserves. While he was serving in the United States, he resided at Fort Lewis in Washington. On October 13, 1960, he was honorably discharged.

Vern married and divorced Nola Behunin. Vern had three sons: Ace, Kehl, and Chad. He was a peacemaker, kind, and generous. He shared whatever he could with people that were in need. Vern always raised a wonderful garden and orchard and was known for sharing his harvest with his friends and neighbors.

Vern is survived by his three sons Ace (Linda) Murray of Madison, Wisconsin; Kehl (Lynette) Murray of Rexburg, Idaho; and Chad (Rocky) Murray of Colorado; and by his siblings Twila Ann Merkley of Vernal, Utah; and William Riley Murray of Richfield, Utah.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Austin Hugh Murray and Eva Merkely, and grandson Justin Cody Murray.

In total, Vern had 8 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. His friends, family, and many medical professionals will always remember Vern's favorite saying: "Thank you kindly".
