Vera I. Dodge, 91, passed away November 8, 2013 at her home in Pocatello, Idaho, natural causes. Vera was born the first of eight children of Markwood and Gwendola Lohr in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was raised in Twin Falls, and attended Twin Falls area schools. She met her future husband Cecil at a dance. They both loved the skating rink, and often friends would clear the floor to watch the two of them dance. This beautiful relationship continued for 74 years of marriage, raising their two daughters Joan and Carolyn while working in the family business, the Pocatello gun shop located at 326 N. Main . Vera was co-owners of the Pocatello Gun shop with her husband Cecil and she was active in doing anything from bookwork, purchasing, and even sales. She had a very comprehensive knowledge of guns and ammunition. She and a friend won the National Rifle buddy match shooting competition and held the record in that competition for many years. Vera was baptized a member of the First Baptist Church. Vera was a soft, loving, kind wife; mother of mothers, grandmother of grandmothers. In her early years she loved designing & sewing many things for her family and also for the Kasai dance studio making numerous costumes for their dance recitals. She was very active in skiing, bowling, and golfing but had to discontinue these activities due to a back surgery. Her physical limitations did not stop her energy and ambition; she loved gardening in her garden. She loved flowers. Her unique creativity was admired by many who enjoyed her gardening. Vera also loved traveling domestically with her daughters and grandchildren. Some of her destinations were a Hawaii, Florida, Texas, and Mexico. She loved to play the nickel slots in Las Vegas. Vera is survived by her husband of 74 years, Cecil Dodge, Pocatello, Idaho; two daughters Joan (Duane) Denton, Bozeman, Montana, Carolyn (Val) Smith, Shelly, Idaho; one brother, Mark Lohr; three sisters Mary, Dolores, and Donna; seven grandchildren, Debbie, Tammy, Lisa, Sheri, Jay, Cheryl, Brian; six great-grandchildren, Travis, Parker, Harrison, Erica, Alex, and Justin. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, and a son-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., November 13th, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 South 4th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.
