Velma Brandt

POCATELLO, IDAHO - Velma Brandt, 86, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, December 22, 2012. Babe was born March 16, 1926 in Blue Springs, Nebraska to Jourden and Nellie Snyder. She grew up and graduated high school in Beatrice, Nebraska. She married A.A. "John" Brandt on December 26, 1945 in Beatrice, and soon after moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1958 the Brandt family moved to Pocatello where they made their permanent home. Babe focused on raising her children until the youngest started school. She was then employed with the U.S. Forest Service, and retired as Resource Technician after 20 plus years of service. Babe led a life of joy and loved to participate in many activities throughout her life including softball, golf, bowling, gardening, and playing cards with family and friends. She was an amazing cook and loved cooking for her family, and making candy with the Catholic women's group of St. Anthony's Church. Babe is survived by her three children: Susan Whitehead (Dan Bruner) of Pocatello, Steve (Jan) Brandt of Tucson, Arizona and Jeff Brandt of Pocatello; her sisters Thelma Lauder and Eleanor Vonasek, and her brother Archie D. (Sandy) Snyder. She also has four grandchildren: Melisa (Dan) Streubel, Scott (Lynda) Gough, Jeffery and Julie Brandt, and three great-grandchildren: Nathan Streubel, and Ethan and Ella Gough. Babe was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and her brothers-in-law Don Lauder and Arlen Vonasek. The family wishes to express our gratitude to Dr. LaVonne Mills, Peter Tonhazy and Lisa Gravatt of Alliance Home Health and Hospice, personal CNA Carmen Mendoza, and Deanne Tuckett of SEICAA Meals on Wheels, for their special kindness and excellent care. We would also like to thank life-long friends and neighbors Gary, Lea and Brian Curtis, and Peggy Swassing for their assistance, kindness and love, allowing Mom to live at home. A Rosary Vigil will be held at 6 pm on Friday, January 4 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Community, St. Anthony's Chapel, on 7 th and Wyeth in Pocatello. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, January 5 th at St. Anthony's Chapel. A private family burial will follow.
