Veah Jean Lish

June 26, 1936 — August 5, 2016

Veah returned to her Heavenly Father on August 5, 2016.

Veah Jean VanOrden was born June 26, 1936 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Clarence Vernon VanOrden and Beatrice Aston VanOrden at the home of her grandparents. Two years later on June 7, 1938, she was joined by her baby sister JoLeene. They lived in Blackfoot until their father moved the family to Pocatello in 1943. She attended school in Pocatello and graduated in 1954 from Pocatello High School. A few weeks after graduation, on June 2nd she married her eternal sweetheart Arley Delmont Lish Jr. in the Idaho Falls Temple. Dad always said it was the best deal he ever made. He bought her for two dollars, the price of a marriage license at the time. He got a great return on his investment as they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Veah and Arley were thrilled at the birth of their first son Bradley Ray on August 19, 1955. Two years later on August 23, 1957 their only daughter Jodi Kaye joined the family. The family was finally completed by the arrival of the two youngest boys, Gregory Scott on June 10, 1965 and Brian David on October 5, 1966. In 1978 Tony Ballestero from San Jose, Costa Rica entered their lives through the Sister City Exchange. He became like a fourth son, as he returned to live with them while he completed his education at ISU.

Veah had a wonderful life. There were many family vacations, many weekends spent watching her children compete in their various sporting events and she was their biggest fan. Veah loved to sew, spending many hours at the machine sewing for her loved ones. She was determined to sew a quilt for every great grandbaby and she succeeded. She also loved to crochet and embroider and knit. She was a wonderful artist and many enjoy having one of her paintings in their home.

Veah worked for 40 years at FMC and retired as the executive assistant to the plant manager in 1996.

She loved to travel, she was the family travel agent and planned many wonderful trips to places all over the world.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held various callings at the stake and ward level, but took her calling as a visiting teacher very seriously. She always treasured the friendships of the sisters she visited. Veah and Arley loved the seven years they spent serving as temple workers in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Veah and Arley completed their life long goal of serving a mission for their church in the New York, Utica Mission. It was one of the highlights of their lives. They instilled a spirit of missionary service in their family, and loved to say that 130% of their posterity had served missions. The thirty percent is the extra credit for their girls who served and those planning to serve.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Clarence Vernon and Beatrice Aston VanOrden, her In Laws, Arley D. and Lula A. Mitchell Lish, and a nephew Steven Lish. She is survived by her sweetheart, Arley Delmont Lish Jr.; their children, Brad Lish(Janeen)of Boise, Idaho; Jodi DaBell (Verlyn) of Pocatello; Greg Lish (Amy) of Las Vegas and Brian Lish (Michelle) of Camarillo, California; Her sister, JoLeene("K") Harrison; Arley's brothers, Leon Lish (Carol) and Robert Lish (Kathy). She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Many thanks to Encompass Hospice, and the Nurses at Portneuf Hospital for their tender love and care in her final days.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on August 10, 2016 at the Pocatello North Stake Center on Whitaker Road. A viewing will be held from 7:00 to 9:00pm at Wilks Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 and again one hour prior to the funeral service.
