Valerie Celeste Lisby

September 23, 1948 — February 11, 2016

Our beautiful mother and Nana, Valerie Celeste Stettler Lisby, returned to her Heavenly Father Thursday February 11, 2016 at her home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous fight with kidney failure. She was born September 23, 1948 to Elmer Ernest and Cleo Leishman Stettler in Logan, Utah. She was the third of six children. She was raised and educated in Logan and graduated from Logan High School. She married Dale Ancil Wharton on April 11, 1966 and had two beautiful girls. They were later divorced. She then married Dale Gene Lisby on April 1, 1977 and had a beautiful boy. They too were later divorced.

She worked at Bannock County Court House for 37 years in various positions. She retired in January 2015. She loved to travel and had dreams of traveling and spending time at her children's homes. She loved books, cookbooks to be specific, and they had to have pictures. She would spend time looking at the pictures and talk of making them. She enjoyed cooking for her family and it was always amazing. She loved flowers and flower beds. She had many around her home. The colors made her happy.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She devoted herself to every calling she received from Primary and Young Women's to Relief Society. She was a great example of service as she enjoyed being a Visiting Teacher.

Her greatest joy and sense of accomplishment were her children. She took the calling of Mother personally. She devoted her life to see that her children had all that they needed to be happy and successful in life. Our joys were her joys and our sorrows were her sorrows. She was always there to cheer us on in good times. She was always there to share our tears in hard times and offer advice and words of encouragement. She believed in her children and embedded us with the belief that we could do and become anything that we wanted. Her greatest devotion was to a special child sent to her. She was always trying to do the best for her. They enjoyed going to movies, shopping, and eating out on the weekends together. Even when it became difficult her thoughts were of her being taken care of.

She is survived by her daughters Adonia (Doug) Howell of Elk Ridge, UT and Angela Wharton of Pocatello, ID, and son Ryan (Anna Karina) Lisby of San Diego, CA, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grand daughter, 1 sister and 2 brothers.

She is preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.

Family would like to express their deep and sincere appreciation to her Chubbuck 1st Ward family and many friends who have helped her and visited with her and made her last days full of love and support. Words could never express our extreme gratitude in our hearts knowing how loved our mother truly was.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Chubbuck 1st Ward LDS Chapel at 4775 Hawthorne Road in Chubbuck. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Road and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow services in the Logan Cemetery in Logan, Utah.
