Trella Mable Ellen Whitacre DeVoss, 92, passed away on Wed. Feb. 19, 2014 at a local care center. She was born to Henry and Ida Mae Whitacre on April 25, 1921 in Dwight, North Dakota. She was raised in Gruver, Iowa with two sisters and five brothers. Trella graduated from high school in 1938, and then attended college in nearby Estherville, IA. On July 7, 1940, Trella married Delmar DeVoss in Ponca, NE. They had been married for 71 years when he passed away in 2011. Starting in 1942, Trella bravely accompanied Delmar through 21 years of service in the Air Force. Often Delmar went ahead and Trella and the children would follow. They moved 40 times during their lives. They made many lifelong friends during this time. Trella has lived in Pocatello for over 40 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She loved attending Circle with her friends in the church. She was a Bengal Booster and enjoyed attending ISU sporting events. She volunteered many years at the local hospital and at the Red Cross office. Mom always stressed how important family was to her. She took delight in every visit, phone call, card, and picture. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Dale & Marlene DeVoss, Pocatello, ID; Darrel & Elaine DeVoss, Chesterfield, VA; Dean DeVoss & Nora Dwyer, Houston, TX; Dock & Nancy Farrens, Pocatello, ID; 9 grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren, and 3 great-great- grandchildren; one sister, Leora Fisher, and one brother, Melvin Whitacre both of Esterville, IA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Delmar DeVoss, her parents, 1 sister, and 4 brothers. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Trella's name be sent to the ISU Bengal Boosters, ISU Stop 8173, Pocatello, ID 83209. Many thanks are given to the residents and staff at Quail Ridge Assisted Living Center where Trella lived the last two years, and the staff and CNA's that tended to her the last week of her life at Safe Haven. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11 AM at COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello. 208-233-1500. A viewing will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Colonial Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends for one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
