Toy Fung Huie, born February 16, 1918, passed away at home on April 20, 2016. Toy will be remembered for many things. She was a fearless trailblazer, immigrating to the United States from rural China armed with little more than pocket change. She was a savvy businesswoman, helping to build a small collection of Chinese restaurants serving the Pocatello community for over 30 years. She was a family cornerstone, helping to raise 3 generations of children. But most of all, she was the best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother anyone could ask for.
She spent 98 wonderful years with us, enjoying the last 35 years in her adopted hometown of Pocatello. She made a life here and lived the American dream - watching as her children and grandchildren pursued the opportunities she worked tirelessly to provide. Well past retirement age, she could always be found in the restaurant helping out in any way she could. From cutting mushrooms to peeling snow peas, you could try and tell her that she was retired but you could never convince her to take a day off.
We can never replace the warmth and energy she brought to the family. We will remember her love as she raised us, her smile as she wiped away our tears, and her laughter as she celebrated life with us. We love her for making our lives possible, and we're thankful that after almost a century of hard work, she can finally enjoy some well deserved rest.
The family will be holding a public viewing to celebrate the life of Toy on Tuesday April 26th from 6-8 pm at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11:00am also at Wilks Funeral Home with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
