Tioane Johnny Valai

August 16, 1959 — May 11, 2021

Tioane Johnny Poni Tufuga-Valai was born on August 16, 1959 to Tina Maelega Tufuga-Valai and Poni Fa'aoso Tufuga-Valai in Pesega, Samoa.
He lived in Samoa with his family until they moved to Laie, Hawaii in 1972. There he attended Kahuku High and graduated in 1978.

After High School he served a Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the San Jose, California Mission. He then spent time moving around with family, finally settling in Pocatello, Idaho where he met his eternal companion Shirlene Sortor. They married on May 2, 1987 and were later sealed forever in the Logan, Utah Temple.

In 1991 they welcomed their first child, a daughter Cassandra, and in 1993 they welcomed a son Auro. Throughout Tioane's life he also welcomed many extended family and friends into his home.
Tioane was a man of service who led those around him by example. He was often found in service for others.

Tione was a fan of Youtube, often found watching gardening videos for ideas he could use in his own garden. He loved going to the movies, fishing and spending time outdoors. Tioane was a Patriot and held a deep love for America. He became a citizen of the United States of America in 1989.

Tioane was a family man. He is survived by his wife Shirlene, his children Cassandra, Auro, Serni, and Tevita; siblings Joyita, Velma and Mika. He is preceded in death by his mother Tina Maelega, his father Poni Fa'aoso, his brothers Falagislsi, Auro, Falaki and sister Iva; his father-in-law Howard and mother-in-law Nadine.

As a big hearted person, Tioane has many friends. As a family we would like to thank them for their love and support at this time and for the many times they have been there for our family. As we know Tioane held many people close to his heart and welcomed many into our family. Over the years our family grew as he welcomed more and more. We as a family would like them to know our door is always open as Tionae would like it to be. We, including Tioane, love you. God Bless!

A funeral service will be held on Saturday May 15, 2021 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd., Chubbuck ID, 83202 starting at 2:00 p.m. A viewing will take place starting at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
