Timothy F Swenson

January 28, 1946 — May 21, 2011

Family and friends of Tim Swenson announce his departure on 21 May 2011 to a new home, now in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Timothy Fredrick Swenson, 65 passed away from the ravages of cancer at Portneuf Regional Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho on Saturday, May 21,2011 surrounded by his family.

Tim was born on January 28, 1946 in Shelley, Idaho, the sixth child of seven and son of Philip Natheniel Swenson and Edith Amanda Carlson. He grew up on the family farm in the Riverview Community in Firth, Idaho. He learned his hard work ethic on the family farm in Firth and the leased farms on Presto Bench, the Rising River project and Morgan's Pasture.

He attended schools in Firth and graduated from Firth High School. Tim went to college at the University of Idaho and graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering. He spent his working life with the Idaho Department of Transportation, most of that time as resident engineer. His life was characterized by passion for facilitating quality highway improvements on behalf of the State, its agents and the public. His positive impact in the industry has ranged from the Utah and Wyoming borders across Idaho Westward beyond King Hill and Northward beyond Firth. Snow, cold, rain, heat, dust, flood, darkest night and endless days were conditions he endured during his 41+ year working career.

Tim married Mary DeGues in Nampa, Idaho while they were in college and they were later divorced. No children were born to this union. He married Barbara Bend in Winnemucca, Nevada on November 19, 1977.

He served on the Civil Engineering Advisory Committee at Idaho State University for 25 years and was a member of the Idaho Society of Professional Land Surveyors since 1980. His hobbies included hunting and especially fishing. He loved spending this time with his friends and family. He also had great joy on the weekends in the time he spent with his grandchildren. He wanted so much to be here when his new grandson arrived in August. Tim loved the Lord and read from the Bible in the evenings while listening to music.

Tim is survived by his wife Barbara of Pocatello, son Joe Swenson and daughter Brittany (David) Ward both of Pocatello. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Rachel Swenson, Tisana Madyson Ward, Kylee Ward and Austin Ward, two sisters Elaine (Ish) Scott of Wendell, Genevieve Nelson of Bliss, and four brothers Eugene (Marilyn) of Hagerman, Rodney of Boise, Vernal (Jackie) of Shelley and Einar (Diane) of Blackfoot. He was preceded in death by his parents and three nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors and medical staff at Portneuf Regional Medical Center for their professional and personal care of Tim. Thanks also go to all his co-workers and family friends that showed their love and care during visits.
