Thomas Melford Denkers

January 23, 1938 — May 17, 2024

Thomas Melford Denkers, 86, of Pocatello, ID passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on May 17, 2024. Tom was born January 23, 1938, in Pocatello, Idaho to Thomas Jared and Faye Constance (Anderson) Denkers. Tom attended Washington and Whittier Elementary schools, Irving Jr. High, and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1957.

After high school, Tom was called to serve in the Great Lakes Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1958-1960. When he returned home, he met Ruby Marlene Rupp and they were sealed on March 16, 1961, for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. They resided in Pocatello to raise their three boys.

Tom was a hard worker and dedicated over thirty-eight years at the State Highway Department. He was Treasurer of the Pocahy Federal Credit Union, and member of the Snake River and Eastern Idaho Retriever Clubs. He loved sports and was a Little League Football coach for over ten years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in the Bishopric, as a Scout Master for ten years and Sunday School teacher for over twenty years.

Tom’s love of the outdoors was like no other. From hunting, fishing, shooting, and golfing, he was able to teach and enjoy these pastimes with several of his family members and friends. He also loved dancing with his beautiful wife. They would be the center of attention as they jitterbugged at office parties and celebrations. He also prided himself with a pristine yard with brightly colored flowers he would plant each year, even winning awards for its beauty. His true love was his family and visits from his grandchildren who loved his fun-loving, always upbeat attitude.

In addition to his beloved wife Ruby Denkers, Thomas is survived by his children Mike (Jamie) Denkers of Birmingham, AL, Bob (Natalie) Denkers of Idaho Falls, ID, Jeff (Teresa) Denkers of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren Trevor (Lorraine) Denkers of Northglenn, CO, Courtney (Daniel) Isom of Eagle Mountain, UT, Hailey (Brandon) Long of Meridian, ID, Jordan (Eduardo) Denkers of Saratoga Springs, UT, Torie Denkers of Birmingham, AL, Justin (Emily) Denkers of Idaho Falls, ID, Josh Denkers of Idaho Falls, ID; nine great-grandchildren, his two sisters Karleen (Klyne) Nelson of Salt Lake City, UT and Brenda (John) Frazier of Newman, Ga., his sister in-law Dixie Denkers of Pocatello, ID and wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins.
