Thomas H. Carlyle, age 80, passed away peacefully at home in Pocatello, Idaho, surrounded by family, on Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Tom was born in Pocatello, Idaho on August 26, 1938. Except for his time in the Army and a short time in Idaho Falls, he spent his entire life in Pocatello. He is the oldest of 4 children born to Herb and Revah Carlyle. His three sisters, Joyce, Leslee and Gwen, loved spoiling him.

At age 10, Tom delivered milk for Ward's Dairy. He also worked with his father mining in Little Lost and Howe, Idaho. Later he spent summers farming in Castleford, Idaho. Tom attended Irving Junior High and Pocatello High School. At Poky, Tom served as Speaker of the House, played Quarterback for the football team, as well as playing basketball and running track. He was chosen All-Around Athlete his senior year. Tom graduated from Pocatello High School in 1956 and was proud to have 4 generations of his family as Pocatello High School graduates. He attended Idaho State University, where he played Quarterback, winning the 1959 Conference Championship.

Tom enjoyed a physically active lifestyle often jogging 3-4 times per week which led him to participate in a marathon at age 61. He continued to participate in various half marathons, triathlons and the Huntsman Senior Games throughout his 60's and early 70's. He enjoyed watching athletic events, attending church functions, reading and traveling. He especially loved to see his grandchildren and support them in their various activities.

Tom served at Fort Hood, Texas as part of the Army Armored Division prior to his marriage to Margie Davis. They were married January 12, 1961, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were married for 53 years until the time of Margie's passing in October 2014. They are the parents of four children, Scott, Doug, Traci and Kaydene, and have been blessed with 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. After rekindling a friendship at their 60th PHS class reunion, Tom and Ann Lenkersdorfer Jacobsen were married on December 29, 2016.

Tom began working in the insurance industry in the mid 1960's. He was the owner of his own insurance agency. He was the Director of Agencies for Gem State Mutual Insurance Company and the president of Southeastern Idaho Life Underwriters Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of the State Life Underwriters Association.

Actively serving within the community, Tom spent time on the Executive Council of the Tendoy chapter of The Boy Scouts of America. He was Chairman of the Idaho Centennial year dance festival and was on the Pocatello Parks and Recreation Board. He served on the Board of Directors for the Pocatello Alumni Association and as Chairman of the Pocatello High School Educational Foundation.

Tom spent his life as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities such as Chairman of the Church welfare committee for the Southeast Idaho Region, Bishop, Stake President and Patriarch of the Pocatello West Stake, and Sealer in the Idaho Falls Temple. Throughout Tom's adult life, he never passed up an opportunity to teach, serve, mentor and support the youth of the Church.

Tom is survived by his wife Ann Lenkersdorfer Jacobsen Carlyle and his children: Scott Carlyle, Doug Carlyle (Amber), Traci Carlyle Heiner, Kaydene Carlyle Nielsen (Chad) as well as his 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Leslee Carlyle Steed and Gwen Carlyle Wilson.

Tom is preceded in death by his wife Margie Davis Carlyle, parents Herb and Revah Carlyle, sister Joyce Carlyle Petersen, son-in-law Todd Heiner, and granddaughter Savannah Carlyle.
