At that time, she sold her beloved Tyhee home and moved to a smaller residence in Chubbuck where she resided until declining health in 2015 required her to move to an assisted living center.

Thelma enjoyed working. Early in her life she worked as a waitress at the railroad depot and was a bookkeeper for many years at a Chubbuck parts and service company. She retired from Simplot's Aberdeen processing plant in 1989. At the age of 62 she obtained her CNA certification and worked as a home health aide until the age of 75 years old.
