Tex C. Smith

April 5, 1926 — March 19, 2010

Tex Coleman Smith, 83 passed away on March 19, 2010 at a local medical center.

Tex was born in Amarillo, Texas on April 5, 1926 to Fitzhugh and Effie Smith. He was one of three children (Marie and Lucille). Shortly after he was born, they moved to Lubbock, Texas. In Lubbock, he worked various jobs delivering papers for the Lubbock Avalanche, baking bread at Meade's Bakery, and Holsom Bakery. Tex was two weeks shy of becoming 18 when he joined the Navy in 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and married in 1947 to Roberta (Bobbie) Abbott in Tahoka, Texas. Tex and Bobbie moved from Lubbock to Boise, Idaho in 1949. They raised 4 children: Patricia (Gidget) Abbott, Michael D. Smith, Karen Y. Shurtliff (Tim), and Jonathon H.
Smith.

After working for Boise Stone and Tile Co. for a number of years, Tex owned and operated “Tex Smith Ceramic Tile” for 20 years. In 1981, He started working at St. Luke's Hospital as a custodian and retired in 1991. He enjoyed fishing; deer hunting, bowling, and TV repair for years.

Tex is survived by 2 sons and a daughter: Michael D. Smith, Moore, Id., Karen Y. Shurtliff (Tim), Chubbuck, Id., Jonathon H. Smith, Boise, Id., a forever daughter-in-law, Karen Monteiro Smith, and four Stepchildren: Patricia (Gidget) Abbott, American Falls, Id., Eugene F. Abbott, CA., Robert Abbott, CA., Susan Smith, Evansville, IN., a sister, Marie Gilley, Palestine, TX., 2 nieces, Camelia Ann Vincent (Don), Joshua TX., Donna Box (Ricky), Lubbock, TX.; 2 nephews, Johnny Stanfield, Elpaso, TX., Jerry Stanfield (Brenda), Lubbock, TX., 10 wonderful grandchildren, and 9 awesome great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at the Idaho State Veteran's Home for their constant love and care, which gave us the opportunity to have special fun times together.
