Terry Newsom

Terry Lyn Newsom was born on February 28, 1957, to Harlow and Sharon Larsen. She was the third of five children. The family lived in a couple different places before settling on Lincoln Street in Pocatello. Terry’s childhood was full of creative ways to make happy memories. Some of these memories include a homemade ice rink, a chihuahua named Taco that only liked Terry, and trips to her grandpa’s farm (even if she let all of grandpa’s cows out). Terry went to Pocatello High School where she met the love of her life, Blaine. They didn’t marry until later in life, but Blaine was determined that Terry was his girl, and he played the long game. The two married on May 21, 1993. Terry was a package deal and brought some rambunctious kids with her to the marriage. Blaine immediately took the kids as his own and raised them as such.

Over the years Terry worked in different fields from being a CNA to a Bartender. She loved being a CNA and often got attached to the patients she worked with. Terry bartended at The Idaho Bar and made many friends while she was there. As good as she was at the other jobs and titles she held, Terry was best at being a mom. She loved her children fiercely and worked very hard to provide for them. Her children are gifted with many memories with their mom, such as sitting in the living room and waiting for their bus singing a song made up specially for them “Where oh where did Craigee’s bus go.” Times spent at the beach in American Falls where Terry was cursed to always have a seagull poop on her. She made sure her kids never went in the water past their belly buttons by telling them that the fish that took a bite out of the tower in the middle of water would get them too if they went out past their belly buttons. We might still have issues going in water past our belly buttons to this day. Sometimes the simplest things like taking a drive around the bend (Mink Creek to Arbon Valley), as Terry called it, is a cherished memory. Load the kids in the car, stop for sodas and off we went for a drive around the bend with music playing the entire way.

Terry had a great sense of humor and could be a little bit of a trickster. Sometimes it was simple things like moving your dinner plate when your head was turned but it was always funny. Terry passed her trickster ways to kids and sometimes it bit her in the bottom. Terry may have ended up with very salty mashed potatoes on one occasion after the lid on the saltshaker was left untwisted. Terry wasn’t just an incredible mom but also a fantastic grandma. She was blessed with three beautiful grandsons whom she loved so very much – Jackson (10), Aiden (9) and Oliver (2). Terry is survived by four siblings - Lamar (Barbara) Larsen, Denise Ballard, Kimberly (Denny) Carlson and Jodi (Darin) Larson. Her Four Children -Jannelle (Les) Meints, Craig (Rachel) Turner, Jennifer (Jim) Somsen, Jessica (Patrick) Perry and the love of her life, Blaine. Blaine and Terry’s story is one that most dream about and their love is immeasurable. Terry often talked about how lucky she was to have “that one guy she married” and she cherished every second they had together. Terry will be missed so very much, and her leaving has broken our hearts. This world was blessed to have such a wonderful woman in it.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm at Colonial Chapel, 2005 S. 4th Avenue in Pocatello, ID.
