Sydney Dalton passed away unexpectedly doing something he loved on 10/21/24, leaving a Syd-sized hole in our hearts.
Born in Pocatello, ID, Syd was the youngest of seven children to Joe and Ida Dalton. After graduating from Pocatello High School, he attended Idaho State University’s Machinist program. He worked at Spudnik Equipment for 20 years before joining the Union and was a proud member of Local 808, Carpenters and Millwrights for 23 years. He was getting ready to retire and often joked that he was on his farewell tour; it seems he took his final dispatch to heaven, as usual, showing up early.
On 10/29/1982, Syd married Karen Ingram, and from then on, it was always Syd and Karen. They spent 42 years together, building a wonderful life in Pocatello, and raising their two children, Lacey and Joe. Syd loved his wife and children dearly and always supported his family.
“Big Syd” as he was known was passionate about hunting and fishing, his dog Oakley, Green Bay Packers football, gardening, a good margarita, good music, and a good laugh. His work ethic was unmatched. Syd was always one to show up early and stay until the work was done. He passed his strong work ethic on to each of his children and enjoyed watching them flourish. His biggest passion (and his favorite person) was his youngest granddaughter, Delyla Jo.
Syd is survived by his loving wife, Karen Dalton, his two children, Cortney Lacey Dalton of Boise and William Joseph “Joe” (Courtney) Dalton of Pocatello, granddaughter Delyla, bonus grandchildren Lucas and Libbie, siblings Kay Warren, JoAnn (Joe) Osier, and Max Dalton, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ida Dalton, and three brothers, Clark, Dennis, and Don.
