On Wednesday December 22, 2021, our amazing mother and friend to many, Susan Jo Jackson, passed away at age 68.
Susan was born March 5, 1953 in Nampa, Idaho to Herman and Valeria (Klages) Robinson. Her father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, causing her family to move all over the country and eventually settling in Inkom, Idaho in 1966. She would tell many stories of the wonderful lakes and parks they stayed at while on the road, as well as about the interesting people she met and the fun that she and her siblings would have every summer.
During her childhood she loved riding horses and playing sports. She loved running track and playing softball the most. She even held the record for the 220M dash as a freshman in high school and was rumored to be a great softball pitcher.
Susan married Mike Miles in 1971. They welcomed Kathy Jo Miles to the family and later divorced. Susan then married Kirk Jackson in 1978. They welcomed Kyle Lance Jackson, Keith Allen Jackson and then Kendra Brea Jackson to complete the family, and later they were divorced.
Throughout her life she had a great love of the outdoors which made her adventurous and led to her favorite hobby of searching for gold and rock hounding. One of her favorite trips was to Alaska where she had the most amazing time sleeping on a hard wood plank bed, eating camp food and of course searching for gold. She loved the thrill and discovery of each gold flake. Her search for gold was not about becoming rich, but about the fun experiences she shared with her daughter Kathy and son in law Rick, which is what she treasured the most.
She had a unique ability to easily connect with people and was very outgoing and friendly. She made fast friends wherever she would go, even with perfect strangers and people that others wouldn’t usually approach, whether it was on her trip to Alaska, with the locals on her trip to Hawaii, or even her son’s back yard. She was able to strike up a conversation with ease and always had a smile on her face.
Susan always loved the ocean. She would often talk about the time she lived in Florida and went up and down the beaches there, and then down to Keys. She loved seeing the ocean while visiting her son Kyle and daughter in law Rani, as well as sitting in the beautiful temperatures which reminded her of a wonderful part of her past. Anytime that someone was heading to the coast, no matter which one, she would always have a suggestion of a special spot to visit to have a unique experience to share.
Susan held many jobs in her life, none of which was more important to her than taking care of her family. She was willing to do whatever it took. She worked in many department stores throughout her life, but was also owner/operator of a business for over 20 years while raising four children. This kept her busy, yet she always found the time for Kathy’s performances and Kyle, Keith and Kendra’s sporting events. She was so proud of Kyle when he became class president in high school. She would be the mom shouting in the football stands for Keith, or on the side lines at Kendra’s soccer games. She was supportive and always doing her best for her family.
Susan is survived by her siblings Cindy Burrup and Brent Robinson; her children, Kathy (Rick), Kyle (Rani), Keith (Amber), Kendra; and her Grandchildren, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Justin, Heather, Kelsey, Madison, Preston, Erik, Mason, Carson, Makenna, Bryn Lee, Hunter and Breck Lyn; by her Great Grandchildren, Jayden, Cooper, Keelan, Jaida, Clementine and Wren.
She will always be remembered for her tremendous heart, love of adventure, positive nature and kind spirit.
