Sue Mallavia

Susie Adele Mallavia, was surrounded by her loving family when she went to be with her Heavenly Father on February 10, 2014.

Sue was born in Pocatello, Idaho on July 18, 1931, the daughter of Donald S. and Constance Evans Jenson. She was raised on the family farm in Arbon and began her schooling in the one-room school in Arbon Valley. In the third grade, her family moved into Pocatello where she graduated from Pocatello High School in 1949. She was the Homecoming Queen her Senior year in High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Idaho State University in 1959.

Sue married Louis Pasqual Mallavia on October 30, 1959 in Kansas while Lou was completing his doctorate program at the University of Kansas. This marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. After his schooling they settled in Pullman, Washington and Moscow, Idaho. Sue worked as a Medical Technologist at hospitals in Pullman and Moscow and was the laboratory manager in Pullman.

Sue was an active member of the Gibson Jack Latter-day Saint Ward and served many callings in her church, including Ward Organist, and Primary accompanist (which was the most endearing opportunity for her). She served a family history church mission in Salt Lake City from 2005-2007 and a local mission in Pocatello. Following her missions, she enjoyed a trip to Israel.

Playing the piano was her passion and she touched many lives with her musical ability. She played for the Silver Chords and in the Idaho Falls Temple. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Literary Club. Some of her greatest honors were being invited to play at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and the LDS Conference Center in Salt Lake while she was on her mission. She was very generous and always willing to give to others.

She and three of her children had the opportunity to go to Maui in 2012 and spend time watching the whales and enjoying time together.

Sue is survived by her three children, Connie Maria Mallavia, Lincoln, CA; Donald Louis Mallavia, Gig Harbor, WA and David Floren Mallavia, Page, AZ and her sister, Marilyn Westenskow, Pocatello. She also leaves behind eight beautiful grandchildren, Ryan, Zachary, Natalie, Alexandria, Austin, Trevor, Alyson, and Emma whom she cherished. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Louis Pasqual Mallavia; a son, Wayne Edmond Mallavia; granddaughter, Hillary Mallavia; and great-grandson, Balin Mallavia.

The family is so thankful for all the kindness and loving care extended to her by her friends and family, neighbors, ward members and by the medical community. We are in awe and so appreciative of all you have contributed to this good woman, Sue Mallavia.

Funeral services for Sue will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Gibson Jack LDS Chapel, 8200 West Portneuf Road. A viewing will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday evening at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road and one hour prior to the services at the church. The interment will follow the services at the family plot at the Shoshone Cemetery in Shoshone, Idaho.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The American Cancer Society in honor of her late husband.
