Steven L. Weighall

March 19, 1951 — August 4, 2017

Steven Lee Weighall, 66, of Pocatello Idaho passed away unexpectedly due to complications from a stroke, on Friday August 4, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends.

Steve was born on March 19, 1951 in Wendell, ID to Hyrum and Ramona Weighall. He later lived in Fairfield ID, Hansen, ID, and Georgetown ID. He moved to Soda Springs, ID in the 6th grade and spent the rest of his youth living in and loving that town. Steven attended Soda Springs High School where he was an All Star on the wrestling team, never losing a match! Steve was also the quarterback of the High School football team and enjoyed running track.

After High School Steve attended Brigham Young University for three semesters with an original major in Mechanical Engineering. He continued at BYU from 1969-1971 when he decided to transfer to a smaller school, ISU, in the fall of 1971. In May of 1973 Steve graduated with High Honors from the Idaho State University VOTEC program receiving his certificate of Data processing, Computer Design, Analysis and Programming.

Steve had a job for most of his life and believed in hard work. He believed that you should work hard and play even harder! His first job was working as a motorcycle and snowmobile mechanic. He also ran the movie projectors at the local movie theater and drive-in theater. He felt he was lucky to have these jobs so he didn't have to move sprinkler pipes like his friends, plus the movies were always free!

Steve's first ‘real' job as a computer programmer was for the Bank of Commerce in Idaho Falls, ID from 1973-1974. In the fall of 1974 he took a position at Idaho Farm Bureau in Pocatello, ID. Steve spent 43 years as a loyal employee to Farm Bureau. Steve built most of the original computer programs that run all the Farm Bureau computer systems. Steve loved his work at Farm Bureau and always said, even at 66, that he may never retire. Steve had an amazing work ethic and never cut corners. Steve lived by the motto, "Working hard to do a job right doesn't take any more effort than slacking off and doing it halfway!"

While living in Chubbuck, ID Steve spent many years participating in the scouting program in the 48th ward of the Tyhee LDS Stake. Steve was an Eagle Scout and really believed in the importance of the scouting program. He was able to spend quality time with his son during numerous scout camps, as well as influence a lot of other young men along the way. He will be greatly remembered for all the sacrifices he gave up to spend time with them.

Steve ran the BMX track in Pocatello Idaho from 1986 to roughly 1991 where he and his family enjoyed many weekends together! It was through this outlet that he met his best ‘buddy' Ivan who ran the Idaho Falls BMX track. This turned into a lifelong friendship for them.

Steve enjoyed anything that had to do with the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, and shooting rifles. He always enjoyed the water and loved water skiing and boating with his kids. He loved the snow, but only if he could play in it on his snowmobiles! He recently enjoyed the new 4-wheelers he bought for him and his son and spending weekends riding and hunting with his ‘buddies' who called him ‘Stevie'.

In 1974 Steve married Annette Shuler of Soda Springs, ID and they were later divorced in 2007. Together they had their three children; their son Brent, and their twin girls Stephanie and Angela. Steve loved his kids more than life itself. He never missed the girls dance recitals, drill team performances, and sporting events. He supported Brent in scouts, band, BMX, and sporting events. Nothing brought a smile to his face more than being able to spend time with his kids and grandkids. You could never argue that he loved his children and his 6 grandchildren (soon to be 7) more than life itself. He would give anything and everything he had to help them. You would often find him on the weekends working to finish basements and doing projects on his kid's houses. He never gave a second thought about it and would come to help at the first phone call he got. He never missed a birthday or a snowy Christmas day drive to SLC to visit his grandkids. Even in his last moments he made sure they were the ones taken care of before him. Steve's work ethic and belief in working hard in school and enjoying life, will live on with them forever.

Steve would often be quoted as saying ‘I have no regrets. I am a very lucky man. I have always had good health, a good job, great friends, and a wonderful family!' In his last moments when asked ‘Did you have a good life' he responded with ‘I had a GREAT life!' Please help us honor our dad's memory and live life to its fullest! We will love and miss you forever daddy!

Steve is survived by his three children, Steven ‘Brent' Weighall of Pocatello, ID, Stephanie Ann Barlow (Travis) of West Jordan, UT, Angela Lee Salerno of Sandy, UT. Siblings, Edith Lillywhite (Dave) of Smithfield Utah, Lana Myers, Soda Springs Idaho, Bruce (Dixie) Weighall, Afton Wyoming, 7 grandchildren, and one beloved dog, Holi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hyrum and Ramona Weighall, infant brother Leonard Weighall, Brother in law Robert, Myers, niece Duanna Brown, Great Nephew Jeremy Turner, and numerous Aunts and Uncles.
