Steve was born in Guymon, Oklahoma on September 29, 1953, born the son of Leslie Ralph Thompson and Darlene Dean McLaughlin. At 3 years of age the family moved to Pocatello, Idaho. This is where Steve has called home ever since.
Steve's education was attending Tendoy Elementary, Alameda Jr. High and Highland High School. He educated further at the Eastern Idaho Vocational Technological School; majoring in Automotive Electrical Systems and Arc Welding.
Steve married Debbie Ricks in 1973. To this union their daughter, Machell Cherrie was born in 1974 and a son, Steven Michael in 1979. They were later divorced. He loved his children with all of his heart.
In 1992, Steve and Bobette Godfrey were brought together. They fell deeply in love and were married in 1994. To this union Bobette's 3 children Ben, John and Lani all became a family. Steve loved these children as his own.
His lifetime career of a mechanic and machinist included jobs at: Karls Machine Shop a Journeyman Automotive Machinist, Western States Equipment as a Field, Truck Shop and Engine Bay Mechanic and D & J Diesel as a Line Mechanic. Steve retired in 2009 with 20 years of service at the United Parcel Service as a fleet mechanic. Steve worked for a short time at School District #25 as a Bus Mechanic. Steve was well known by many as "Guyver". He could fix anything with anything. Steve earned several outstanding awards and recognitions from his hard work, dedication and perfectionism.
Steve had the most beautiful sky blue eyes. He had a great sense of humor and had a nickname for everyone. He lived for the great outdoors. Steve and Bobette enjoyed many years of elk hunting, goose hunting, snowmobiling, dirtbike riding, camping and fishing of all kinds. He loved the Oregon Coast, clam chowder and oysters.
Steve was in end stage liver failure. His wife became his sole caregiver until the time of his passing. The love, selflessness, compassion, dedication and positive attitude to getting a second chance of life, that Bobette gave him, is what gave Steve his strength and determination and quality of life.
