Steven Herbert Lloyd

Steven Herbert Lloyd passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 18, 2018 after a short illness. He was born on October 5, 1947 in Pocatello, Idaho to Myrle D. Lloyd and Herbert Edwin (Speed) Lloyd. Steve grew up in Pocatello where he excelled in many different endeavors. He was a talented artist and musician. He loved the guitar and played in many different bands. He was a quick study at virtually everything he tried. It was not his goal to just to learn a new skill as it was to master it and excel. He loved the scouting program and earned his Eagle award. Throughout his life, he would inspire other young men to obtain the highest rank in the scouting program. Steve graduated from Pocatello High School and attended Idaho State University where he earned a bachelor degree. He also earned a Master's degree in English. Steve was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings over the course of his life. He served an honorable mission in France and Belgium from 1967 to 1969. Later in life he served in the young men's program specifically scouting and he loved to go on camp outs. He would always bring his guitar to play. In 1971 Steve joined the Idaho National Guard. He would serve in the Army National Guard throughout most of his life. He earned the rank of Second Lieutenant. Steve participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was stationed in Iraq. Steve travelled extensively through Europe while serving with the Army National Guard. He received an honorable discharge for his services in 2007. Steve married Janet Lee Call on June 30, 1973 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They raised four children together; Steven Daniel Lloyd, Joshua James Lloyd, Christopher Charles Lloyd, and Serena Lee Tovey. Steve and Janet were later divorced. Steve eventually moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he taught school in the Clark County School District for several years. Steve took two years to teach English in Korea. He had cherished memories of this experience. Steve loved living in Las Vegas because he liked the warmer weather there. He had many close friends who he dearly loved. Las Vegas was his home. He loved being involved in an LDS singles branch there. He took charge of many the activities and he enjoyed his experiences with the members of the branch. It was a very important part of his life. Steve also was a temple worker in the Las Vegas Temple. He loved to spend as much time in the temple as he possibly could. Steve enjoyed visiting his children in Idaho and California. He liked to attend class reunions and see old friends. He always brought his guitar. Steve made lots of friends through his music. Steve is survived by his children, Steven Daniel Lloyd, Joshua James Lloyd, Christopher Charles Lloyd, and Serena Lee Tovey (Terrel Ned Tovey); two brothers, William Harland Lloyd (deceased), and Charles Dana Lloyd; three grandchildren, Troy James Lloyd, Lilly Renee Lloyd, and Taliesin Rodney Tovey. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 11 am at the Pocatello LDS Caldwell Park Chapel located at 135 S. 7 th Ave. Pocatello, ID in the small chapel. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID, with a luncheon following at the church. There will also be a memorial service in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11 am with a luncheon to follow at the North Las Vegas LDS Hidden Canyon Ward, located at 1991 Washburn, North Las Vegas, NV.
