Stanley Bruce Callantine

January 26, 1950 — April 19, 2021

On April 19, 2021 the world lost a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and storyteller. On that day Stan Callantine lost his battle with COPD and left this world to spend eternity with the Lord.

We rejoice to know that he is now whole, pain free, and no longer struggling to breathe. We mourn for those of us left behind who miss him terribly.

Stanley Bruce Callantine was born in Bozeman, Montana on January 26, 1950. He was the third of four children born to Tommy and Arleta (Thompson) Callantine. Stan grew up exploring the forests and rivers of Montana and developed a love of animals and the out-of-doors that persists to this day.

His father was an avid hunter and fisherman and Stan followed him every chance he got. The family went camping and fishing with friends and family for recreation.

When not in school, Stan would grab his little brother Rodney or one of his friends and traipse through the woods and streams near his home. When he was older he worked bucking hay to help pay for his school clothes.

The family moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1968 when his father took over the horse racing paramutual duties in Southeast Idaho and surrounding states for the United Tote Company. Shortly thereafter Stan met Georgia Grumbein. The couple were inseparable and married in 1970. They were blessed with two children, Jason in 1971, and Nicole (Nique) in 1976.

Stan joined the Navy in 1971. After boot camp he was assigned to the Navy Seabees Mobile Construction Batallion (MCB3) in Oxnard, California, where he trained as a welder. During his four-year tour of duty he was deployed to Guam, Okinawa and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Though he missed living in Montana, Stan soon fell in love with the lakes, rivers, mountains, plains, and high deserts of Idaho where he fished and hunted Elk, deer, coyotes, and waterfowl. He also spent his leisure time riding his beloved Harley, four wheelers and snow machines with friends and family.

Stan made many friends while working as a mechanic at Franks Repair Service (Volkswagon specialist) for his father-in-law Frank Grumbein. His circle of friends grew with jobs at Partner Steel, Roto Rooter, and SME steel.

Due to poor health, Stan went on disability in 2008. He soon found Facebook and hundreds of new friends who enjoyed his love of life, "Born a While Back and Never Grew Up" posts, and Memory Lane stories. He reconnected with Highland High School classmates and worked on the reunion committee for many years. He delighted in the reunions and annual picnics where he was able to catch up with friends. During the last several years of his life, Stan worshiped God and enjoyed the fellowship and love of Pastor Jamie Mayer, Pastor Todd Wood, and all the members of the Seasoned by Grace Church community.

Stan was preceeded in death by his parents and younger brother Rodney Dale Callantine.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia, son Jason, daughter Nique, sister Lanette Wells (Lou) and brother Ed Callantine. Grandchildren Ashlyn Jeffrey (Colton), Caleb Conrad, Jacob Conrad, Naomi Callantine, Matthew Callantine, Audrey Callantine, great grandson Booker Jeffrey, multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. Other children of our hearts are Dranden Conrad (Rachel), and Penny Callantine.
