Shirley Darlene Follick Smith, 90, peacefully passed away at the Grace Assisted Living in Chubbuck on Friday, May 24, 2024, surrounded by family.
She was born to Sid and Lucille Follick on June 15, 1933, the second child, in Nampa, Idaho. She graduated from Pocatello High School in 1951.
Shirley married the love of her life, Richard Smith, on December 31, 1951, and had five sons: Steven in February 1953, Keith in December 1954, Sidney in February 1956, Michael in July 1958, and Timothy in April 1960. She had her hands full with those five boys, but she loved them with all her heart. When they were out camping, Shirley was at camp with her nose in a book, she loved to read.
Shirley worked as an executive administrative lead for the Department of Defense, specifically as their IBM Librarian. She could out-type the typewriter all day long. Shirley was amazing at editing her sons’ papers for school or staying up all night to help them get projects done.
She was an incredible cook and was known by many who loved her for the Thanksgiving rolls and Christmas candies she made. Sunday dinners were always a roast beef with potatoes, and a killer gravy to make up for the meat being a little dry.
Shirley loved spending time with her family, adoring on her grandchildren, attending family reunions, participating in Family History Work, watching the Saints play football (Go, Taysom!), and many church activities. She was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some of her favorite callings was Cub Scout Leader, Relief Society President, Primary President, Young Women’s President, and Girls Camp Leader.
She is preceded in death by her life-long, eternal love of her life, Richard Smith; brothers Wayne Follick and Boyd Follick; and her parents Sidney & Lucille Follick.
Shirley is survived by her sons Steve (Kristi) Smith of Kennewick, WA; Keith Smith of Idaho Falls, ID; Sid (Brigette) Smith of Layton, UT; Mike (Lani) Smith of Irwin, ID; and Tim (Jan) Smith of Chubbuck, ID; her sister Vera Nelson of Martinez, CA; and many grandchildren.
A viewing will be held for Shirley on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Stake House located at 2140 Satterfield Dr, Pocatello ID 83202. The funeral for Shirley will begin at 11:00 a.m. The interment will be held at the Arimo Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
