Shirley Faye Davis Nielsen-Kunert

October 2, 1931 — June 9, 2021

Shirley Faye Davis Nielsen-Kunert went softly into the night while at home on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. After a full life of nearly 90 years – she was born in Pocatello on October 2, 1931 - she was ready and at peace with passing.

With her deep love of The Gospel of Jesus Christ, Shirley lived her life in accordance with her testimony. She freely and lovingly shared her smile, intelligence, sensibilities, humor, and beliefs with anyone who came into her life. In fact, she had so much love and knowledge to share, she married twice (one at the age of 80!) and added to her number of children. Many people thought of her as friend, mother, sister, aunt, and grandma.

Preceded in death by:
Husband, Donald Tippets Nielsen, and Husband Vernon Kunert. Daughter, Linda Michelle Nielsen Atwood - and Son, Kristian Davis Nielsen. Mother, Geneva Gwendolyn Davis - Father, Ernest John Davis - and Sister, Renee Davis Anderson.

Her legacy is survived by:
Brother, Brent Davis, and Sister Janet Davis Mitchell. Son, Kendell Lee Nielsen (Elaine), -Son, Ernest John Nielsen (Sue) – Daughter, Katrin Nielsen Kopp - and Son, Michael Lynn Nielsen (Al), with 37gradnchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. Step-Daughters, Kathy Bieman (Aaron), Karen Mascaro, Bette Hull (Mark) – and Stepsons Jim Kunert, Paul Kunert (Izzy).

Shirley’s care for the people around her was constantly an example of service to others. During her married life she moved to many different Air Force bases with her family. She was called as a Relief Society President in each city where she lived. She is remembered in her Pocatello neighborhood for her service, again, as Relief Society President in her home Ward and in the local care facilities. And she spent hours every month signing birthday cards to all of her family members, with a little money in each card.

Every morning, Shirley would spend time with her dear friend, Lori, “reading” the newspaper (macular degeneration had taken most of her eyesight the last few years), figuring out the word puzzles, and perusing the obituaries to see if she knew anyone. Now she does.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, in the Pocatello West 9th Ward church building, at 11am. The glue that kept her family together in love, has now brought them together to express their love.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family under the "Tribute Wall" tab above.
