Shirley England Lee

May 18, 1929 — August 30, 2018

With her prayers answered in God's own due time, Shirley England Lee, daughter of Milton and Bessie Harris England, passed away on August 30, 2018 to be reunited with her husband, Curtis, her younger brother, Lloyd, and her grandson, little Larry , who lived for only a day.

Shirley was born in Logan, Utah on May 18, 1929. Her family moved to Pocatello in 1931 and she lived there all but the last three years of her life. Though a very private person herself, she enjoyed finding out the latest news about her family and friends, especially good news. If a conversation descended into criticism or gossip, she would shut it down by saying, "Nuff said."

Her father, Milton, was co-owner of Gateway Printers. Shirley worked there after school and loved doing office work and learning the elementary skills of the trade. She attended local schools and, upon graduation from Pocatello High School, attended Brigham Young University, where she met and married Curtis Lee.

When Curtis graduated from college, the Lees moved to Pocatello, living in the same home for 65 years. Shirley was what we now call a stay-at-home-mom, creating an atmosphere of security, love, peace, great music, much laughter and faith. She served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and looked forward to seeing her friends there and watching little children grow to adulthood. After her children started college, Shirley joined them, taking one class a semester until she received a bachelor's degree in library science from Idaho State University.

Though most of her life was spent in a two mile circle centered in downtown Pocatello, she and Curtis spent two years in Taif, Saudi Arabia, teaching dependent, English-speaking children whose parents worked for Northrup Corporation. She never tired of speaking of the time "when we were in Saudi."

She was blessed with three children, Robert, Larry and Candace and loved to brag about them and their families. However, she was not hesitant to offer them unambiguous correction when necessary. Her greatest joy came while serving little children either as a chorister in the Primary or as a nursery leader. She loved the innocence of little ones, their curious expressions and their forgiving nature.

After Curtis passed away in 2013, Shirley remained in Pocatello for two years. Later, she moved to Ogden, Utah, where, after nearly three years, she passed away. The family expresses deep appreciation to the administrators and staff of Brookdale Senior Living in Pocatello, Legacy House of Ogden, and BrightOn Home Care and Hospice for the care they gave Shirley in her later years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Milton and Bessie Harris England, her husband Curtis Lee, her brother Lloyd Harris England, and one grandchild – Larry Curtis Lee, Jr. She is survived by her brothers: Charles Milton England of Salt Lake City and Ray Jesse (Margaret) England of Buffalo, Montana; her children: Robert (Peggy) Lee of Ogden, Utah; Larry (Beverly) Lee of Olivia, Minnesota; and Candace (Donald) Busby of Ogden, Utah. At the time of her passing, she had 19 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.
