Sherry R. Reed

Sherry Roberta Reed (Peck) was born April 7, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa to Robert and Joyce Peck. Sherry was the oldest of four kids. David peck, Amy Peck and Tim Peck were born in the following years, and their family lived a quiet life. Sherry attended Riverside High School, where she graduated with her diploma in 1970. After her graduation, she continued her education and received her CNA certificate. Sherry worked in a nursing home afterward, and she loved her career choice, but it was emotionally draining when she would lose the residents she had grown to love so dearly. Upon moving to Pocatello, Idaho in 1979 with her own budding family, she continued to work in a field where she could care for others and make as much of a difference as possible. She worked briefly as a CNA in Pocatello. Later on, Sherry opened a daycare within her home to care for children before renting a building to grow the business. Afterwards, she worked for school district 25 where she cared for children with mental disabilities. Sherry was exactly the type of person that needed to be in that environment to foster laughter, love, light, and education. She cared so deeply for the children that she cared for, even when it was emotionally exhausting. Sherry worked at Lincoln Elementary, Syringa Elementary for a short wile before moving to Hawthorne Middle School where she retired from.

During her time in Iowa, she met the love of her life Randall (Randy) Ray Reed. There were married June 30, 1973. During the early years of their marriage, they welcomed Christopher Michael Reed, Travis Jon Reed and finally Shawn Lee Reed. Sherry’s whole world resided in her husband and sons. She doted on them and made sure that they knew that they were wholeheartedly loved. Family was absolutely everything to her. In 2015, she was blessed with the little ball of light that became her sole focus. Her granddaughter, Patience Lea Reed was born, and quickly became the center of her universe. She was fully engulfed with the love she felt for her granddaughter and talked of her at every chance she had. Patience lovingly called Sherry “Grandma Gerdy” or just “Gerdy” for short, and Sherry absolutely adored that nickname. Sherry’s family and friends were always close to her mind. She was always wondering, worrying, and caring for those that she loved, and if you fell in that category, you were blessed. Nothing was as loyal and fierce as the love she held in her heart for the family and friends she had. Sheryl Savary and Kevin Nelson were two of her lifelong friends that she gained while growing up, and they have continued their friendship into adulthood. Like many young adults, Sherry, Sheryl and Kevin were silly, and had grand adventures together while they found themselves and grew into adults. Sherry was the type of person that wanted others to know they were cared for. While dining out, she frequently spotted a cute older couple, a lonely person sitting alone, or just someone that walked in or out that she felt needed a boost. She would ask the wait staff to add the person or persons meals to her tab so that she could pay for it. Randy and Sherry frequented the Senior Center in Pocatello for meals, and she would purchase meal tickets to hand out to others. To this moment, there are a stack of free meal tickets in her wallet that she had yet to hand out. This was how Sherry was. This is what made her heart happy, to do things for others. Any time there was an illness, or even if you were just down, she would make a call to Butterburr’s for an order of chicken noodle soup and a twist.

Sherry is survived by her husband of 48 years, Randy, her three sons Chris (Christy), Travis (Nic and Billie) and Shawn, her granddaughter Patience, her adopted granddaughter’s Skylar and Challis (Tootsy), her granddog Molly Ann, her brother Tim, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Sherry is preceded in death by her father Robert, her mother Joyce, her brother David, her sister Amy, and many pets.

With the above being said, in lieu of flowers, monetary donations, etc. please take the time to bless someone unexpectedly. Do it quietly, just as Sherry did. Pay for the person behind you in the fast-food line, add someone’s tab to yours, buy a coffee for someone, or donate to a non-profit. Above all, this is how Sherry’s love, light and spirit can live on through all of us.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 8, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at the Mink Creek Group Campsite.
