Sharon Thompson, 73, of Salt Lake City and formerly of Pocatello, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012. She was born on July 15, 1939, in Twin Falls, ID, to Carroll and Pauline Holloway. She attended schools in Twin Falls where she grew up on a farm. She was active in 4H and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1957. The following fall she attended Idaho State University and was involved with Alpha Omicron Pi. She maintained ties with her sorority until her retirement. Her primary study was home economics. While at ISU, Sharon met Jim Thompson. They were married Dec 27, 1959 in Twin Falls and made their home in Pocatello, ID. Together they had 3 girls: Lori Kay, Traci Lynne, and Shalayne Hilary. Sharon, Jim and family were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1975. Upon graduation from ISU she taught as a home economics teacher at Franklin Junior High and Pocatello High School for 20 Years . During her tenure at Pocatello High School she became the head of the Home Economics department at . After retirement she started a pre-school in her home. Shari was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Stake Relief Society President, stake camp director, and other various ward and stake callings. After retirement she served a mission at the LDS Business College where she served as receptionist and grandma of 1300 students. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, and just spending time with family. She started painting in her later years. She used her surroundings in her favorite place at her cabin in Island Park as ininspiration for her canvas. She was an amazing seamstress, cook, and had a very approachable, outgoing, sparkly, and magnetic personality. She is survived by her husband James of Salt Lake City, UT; daughters Lori Kay (Lee) Warren of Pocatello, Traci Lynne (David) Montgomery of Ammon, ID, Shalayne Hilary (Chris) Read of Pocatello; sister Francis (Lyle) Adams of Lakewood, CO; brother Larry Holloway of Portland, OR; 14 grandchildren: Britni, Megan, Derek, and Dallas Warren; Briana, Shaya, Case, Taybree, and Talen Montgomery; Braden, Dylan, Taylor, Nathan, and Adyson Read; and one great-grandson, Brixon Southwick. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012, at the Tyhee LDS Stake Center at the corner of Tyhee and Moonglow. A visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Larkin Mortuary in Salt Lake City. There will also be a visitation on Thursday, August 16, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will follow services at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
