Sharon Lee Newman

December 21, 1941 — January 9, 2024

Sharon Lee Velten Davis Newman, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of January 9, 2024. She was born on December 21, 1941, in Blackfoot, Idaho to Bessie (Loran) Marler. Sharon spent most of her early life growing up in Montana and Idaho. As an only child, she loved spending time with her grandmother, Eva Lee.

Sharon relocated to Pocatello, Idaho with her parents, as they both worked for the railroad. Over the years, she had lived in many places, including Nebraska, Montana, California, and Idaho. While living in California, Sharon met the absolute love of her life, Herman Davis. They married in 1973 and together had three children. Both Sharon and Herman had children from previous marriages. Together, they navigated life raising eleven children.

In 1977, the couple returned to live in Pocatello with their six younger children. Sharon was a waitress and Herman was a truck driver. Sharon loved their life together and lived it to the fullest. Herman passed away in June 1980. Following Herman’s death, Sharon exemplified her dedication to motherhood, supporting her children. She was blessed to find love again.

Sharon married Steve Newman in February 1983. She helped Steve run his auto dealership in Pocatello, S & J Auto Sales, until Steve’s passing in 2001.

Since 2001, Sharon has enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to travel, often taking the family on vacations and explorations.

In 2007, Sharon was diagnosed with cancer and given a prognosis of 6 months to live. She overcame all the challenges and proved her doctors wrong. Even in her final week, she enjoyed a cruise to Mexico.

She enjoyed cake, her grandchildren, and her many adventures. She was not bothered by what others thought and she lived life on her own terms. She was, without hesitation, loving, independent, stubborn, and ambitious. She was the embodiment of strength, resilience, and perseverance. She showed everyone what it meant to beat the odds and expectations set for you.

Sharon is survived by her children, Shirley Cooper, Sandra (Allen) Chacon, Loran (Marty) Davis, and Duane (Tereasa) Davis; Her grandchildren, Corey (Tom Gibby) Newman, Peyton Davis, Paige Davis, Bobby Smith, Christopher Smith, Saddie Davis, Karson Davis, Kyli Davis, Kourtnee (Nathan) Niska, Ashley Phillips, Christopher LaVatta, Brian LaVatta, Hannah (Andrew) Alder, Sarah Willis, and Leah Willis; her great grandchildren CJ (Kayman Lindholm) Newman, Trevor Barnes, Jasper Waters, and Theodore (Theo) Niska; and her beloved service dog, Ruger.

Sharon was preceded in death by her grandmother, Eva Lee Lavelle; her parents, Loran and Bessie Marler; her husband Herman Davis, and husband Steve Newman; her daughters Linda LaVatta and Katrina Cooper, son-in law Allen Chacon; and her grandson Michael Phillips.

Sharon desired to not have a memorial service. Instead, a Celebration of her Life will be held in the Summer. Her remains will be laid to rest with her first love, Herman Davis.

The family would like to extend a special sentiment of gratitude to Helping Hands Home Health, especially Amy and Denise; Dr. TJ Tolman of Eagle, ID, Dr. Richard Curtis formerly of Pocatello but now in Iowa, and Dr. Nick Henrie of Pocatello. Your help and support over the years is greatly appreciated as well as the love and kindness extended to our family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would love to hear personal stories about Sharon from her friends. Donations for funeral expenses can be given to Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck.
