Shannon Alice Swanson, our sweet mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, went home to be with Jesus on January 1st, 2025. She was 93 years old. The quintessential lady and a woman who was always there for her family, she will be greatly missed by those who loved her!
Shannon was born in Ogden, Utah on April 11, 1931 to George and Helen Frost. She was the middle sibling to older brother (by only 11 months), George and younger brother, Roscoe. Her family eventually relocated to Pocatello, Idaho and Shannon graduated from Pocatello High School in 1949. She graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, located in Boise, in 1952. Although life would lead her in a direction different than a career in nursing, her nursing degree always meant a great deal to her. She continued to renew her nursing license well into her 80’s and served several people as a private nurse. Family members fondly remember her always washing her hands in a “sterile fashion”, even late in life.
In 1952, Shannon met and married Robert “Bob” Swanson. They welcomed five children to their family over the next 12 years – Karen, Bonnie, Mark, Ted and Ron. In 1960, Bob and Shannon moved their family to the Michaud Creek Ranch where they would live and raise cattle and crops for the next 50 years. As a city girl thrown into country life, Shannon felt very isolated early on, but she quickly adapted and devoted herself to the difficult duties of a rancher’s wife. Shannon spent these years raising her children; it was important to her that she always be present for them. She took great care to keep their busy home neat and orderly. She grew a large vegetable garden every summer and spent a lot of time canning. Shannon also grew a beautiful rose and iris garden. She fed the crews who came to the ranch to help with cattle or harvest. She often opened her home for large gatherings of family and friends. The memories of holidays, parties and family reunions hosted at the ranch are very special to many people.
Eventually, Bob and Shannon retired from ranching and moved back into town. They both picked up the game of golf and enjoyed pulling their fifth wheel to Arizona and California for golf trips with friends. Shannon also began painting and proved herself a talented artist.
Shannon put her trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized as a Christian. She was active in Bible Study Fellowship for several years and also attended Bible study with Pastor Steve Yadon.
Shannon was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Frost; her brother, Roscoe Frost; and very recently her husband of 72 years, Robert Swanson. One day after her death, her older brother, George, also passed away and joined her in heaven.
Shannon is survived by her five children: Karen (Randy) DeBoard, Bonnie (Tim) Brulotte, Mark (Monet) Swanson, Ted Swanson and Ron (Debi) Swanson. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Gables and Heritage Hospice, especially Shell and Trista, for their compassion and exceptional care.
A combined memorial service will be held at Wilks Mortuary (211 W Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, ID) on February 7th to celebrate the lives of Shannon and her brother, George Frost. Visitation will begin at 1:00 with the service to follow at 2:00. Internment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery (1520 S. 5th Ave, Pocatello, ID)
