Selena Elaine Szymanski Gathright was born on July 6, 1980 in Pocatello, Idaho and passed away March 30, 2022 in her parents’ home in Pocatello, ID. Selena attended school at Syringa Elementary, Alameda Jr. High and Highland High school. Some of her fondest memories that she loved to talk about included her lifelong friend Amy from across the park starting at an early age thru adulthood sharing adventures and creating special memories.
Selena lived in Idaho, Utah, Texas, Colorado and her favorite place she lived was Hawaii. She enjoyed traveling to new places with friends and family. Selena married at a young age in Hawaii in 1997 and had three children, Justin (24), Hunter (18) and Lily (13). She was later divorced.
Selena was very artistic and musical. She loved playing the ukulele and piano and wrote and performed her own beautiful music for friends and family. Anything she wanted to learn she taught herself by watching videos and podcasts and reading and researching in books. Selena loved to create art using paints, charcoals and pencils. She also enjoyed writing stories and poems and was very creative in all things. One of Selena’s greatest enjoyments was just lying in the sun on the beaches in Hawaii. She loved to be warm and this time inspired most of her music and art. Selena courageously fought many health challenges and even in the toughest times she met it with a smile, always spreading love and joy. Selena touched many lives with her kindness and was an inspiration to all those who knew her.
Selena is survived by her parents Steve and Debra Szymanski, sister Neta (Eric) High, brother Shawn (Becca) Szymanski, sons Justin and Hunter Gathright, daughter Lily Gathright, grandfather Rawleigh Anderson and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
