POCATELLO " Scott David Gibson, 49, passed away peacefully at his home in Pocatello, Idaho, surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 4, 2010, following a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS).
He was born on Jan. 28, 1961 in Pocatello, Idaho, the second of five children, born to Philip James and Patricia Ellen Olson Gibson.
He was a 1979 graduate of Highland High School, where he enjoyed playing football, wrestling and socializing with friends. After graduating high school, Scott was called to serve an LDS mission to Quito, Ecuador 1980 " 1982 where he grew to love and serve the Ecuadorian people. This was a time in his life that gave him great appreciation of the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the opportunities and advantages he had of being born a citizen and growing up in a free and prosperous nation. After returning from his mission, he married Jeanne Parker on July 7, 1983 in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were blessed with 3 children, Jacob, Brooke and Cassie.
He graduated from Idaho State University with an Associates Degree in Data Processing and gained employment with the FBI. While working there, he continued his education at ISU and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science then went to work for FMC where he was employed for 10 years. In 2000, Scott was asked to manage the computer networks and data center of FMC's new venture, Astaris, in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2005, he left St. Louis to work as Information Security Manager for Fair Isaac Corporation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Scott always enjoyed working in the computer field, but most of all, cherished his friendships with his colleagues and friends.
Growing up in Idaho, he loved the beautiful mountains and loved to hunt and fish. While living in the Midwest, he took advantage of the new opportunities that a big city provides which included; watching the St. Louis Cardinals, The Blues, Vikings, golfing in hot humid weather, exploring the lakes of Minnesota and traveling to many of the church history sites. Life was always good especially when it was spent serving others and spending time with family and friends.
Scott was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings and especially enjoyed working with the youth. He was a great example to all he came in contact with.
On Feb. 14, 2008, Scott was diagnosed with ALS, known as Lou Gehrig's disease. In his last year of employment, he appreciated Fair Isaac allowing him to work remotely, enabling him to enjoy his career and spend as much time as possible with his family. Returning to Pocatello allowed him to renew old friendships. He appreciated all the kind and thoughtful expressions of care and concern from friends and neighbors. He always had a positive attitude and never complained.
