Sandra L. Matthews

January 11, 1942 — August 22, 2014

Sandra was born on January 11, 1942 to Stanley L. Smith and Pauline May Files Smith in Bakersfield, California. She and her three brothers and one sister were raised in Fresno, California. Shortly after graduating from high school Sandra met and fell in love with Freddie Matthews. She and Freddie married on May 20, 1960 and started their life together. They had three beautiful children that were her pride and joy. The family resided in Oregon and in California until Sandra eventually retired in Chubbuck, Idaho.

Sandra was a homemaker and secretary for the family wood business for many years. She enjoyed working in the home because it enabled her to be there for her family. Her family meant everything to her she devoted her lifetime loving and caring for them. One special thing about Sandra was her love of helping others. She spent countless hours working with the handicapped, elderly and underprivileged. If someone was in need she saw that the need was met even if it meant doing without for herself. In her retirement years you could often find her at the First Baptist Food Pantry feeding the hungry even when her health began to fail it didn't stop her from serving those in need. Sandra made friends wherever she went and always had a fun story to share. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Sandra was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Freddie Matthews, her mother, Pauline Mize and daughter, Jerri Lynn Matthews.

She is survived by her brothers, Richard (Linda) Tatum of Pocatello, Idaho, Gary (Barbara) Tatum of Blackfoot, Idaho, Raymond Tatum of Kernville, California, sister, Patty Jennings of Sacramento, California, children, Penny Matthews of Turlock California, Joseph (Tahna) Matthews of Chubbuck, Idaho, grandchildren, Cindy (Justin) Johnson of Oakdale, California, Holly (Byran) Smith of Delhi, California, Nicole and Nathan Woten of Turlock, California, Codie (Jon) Strickler of Bellingham, Washington, Jared Matthews of Chubbuck, Idaho and six great grandchildren.
