POCATELLO-Sewell (Sam) Wilburn Miles, 84, passed away Monday, September 1, 2008 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Sam was born April 16, 1924 to David Hyrum Miles and Ida May (Rindlisbaker) Miles in Grace, Idaho the youngest of six children and identical twin to Newell. He helped on the family cattle ranch and attended schools in Bancroft. Sam enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during WWII on the USS Tucson in the South Pacific. He married Glory Krag April 20, 1946 and they were blessed with two children, Charlotte and David. Glory passed away on August 9, 1948. On June 12, 1951, he married Dorothy Ray in Pocatello, where they continued to reside. Dorothy brought to their marriage 3 sons, Ted, Jim, Paul and together they had a son, Ray. Sam was hard working and devoted to his family. He held multiple jobs, so Dorothy could be at home with children, but FMC was his primary employer. Sam retired from FMC in 1986. Sam and Dorothy enjoyed many years of rockhounding and making jewelry, that was given to family or displayed at shows. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Sam was a member of the Idaho Gem and Mineral Society. He served for many years as treasurer of the Intermountain Faceters Guild. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is survived by his children: Charlotte (Chuck) Wells, Portland, OR, David (Marilyenn) Miles, Inkom, Ray (Joyce) Miles, and Ted (Chris ) Swatsenbarg, Idaho Falls, Paul (Karen Lahr) Swatsenbarg, Boise, ID; 21 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Glory Krag Miles, second wife, Dorothy Ray Miles, brothers, Harley, Dale, and Newell Miles, a son, Jim Swatsenbarg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008, at the 18th Ward Chapel, Hawthorne and Eldredge. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the care of Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave., Pocatello. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Sam's name to Idaho Youth Ranch, 5465 W.
