S. Rex Christensen

February 9, 1935 — March 19, 2010

CHUBBUCK - On March 19, 2010, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, S. Rex Christensen, passed away with his family by his side, after a battle with cancer.

Rex is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Ann Gregory Christensen, his 3 children, Tony Christensen (Debbie), Cindy Steed (Larry), and Tracy Christensen. He had 9 brothers and sisters and is survived by one sister, Orita Woodcox (Aurora, CO). He also enjoyed and is survived by his 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Rex was born on February 9, 1935 in Salmon, ID, but lived most of his younger life with his family in Robin, ID. He attended North Marsh High School where he was Captain of the football team. This is where he met Shirley who became his high school sweetheart and they were married the day after graduation. They were then sealed in the Logan Temple.

Rex and Shirley moved to Chubbuck where Rex began his career with the Mountain Bell Telephone Company (now Qwest) and worked there for over 30 years. In 1962 he was eager to design and build his own home. He and Shirley did most of the construction themselves and have continued to reside there since its completion. Rex's talent in building his own home enabled him to build 4 cabins for friends throughout the years.

Although he retired from the telephone company in 1990, he continued his work installing, programming, and servicing dialers for 8 more years. His greatest joy in life was helping and serving others. He wired many homes and businesses, providing phone and electricity service for people in the area.

He served his country for many years in both active duty and Reserves. Rex served in all four branches of the reserves and his family was especially proud of his accomplishment as a Green Beret. He particularly enjoyed the SeeBees and his time in the Air Force Reserves. Rex was a Volunteer Fireman and served as Fire Chief for the Chubbuck Fire Department for many years.

Rex also served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He affected the lives of so many throughout the years. One of Rex's greatest joys was working with the Boy Scouts. He was Scout Master for many years and earned a Silver Beaver award. Rex and Shirley most recently served as Ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls Temple which was one of his most treasured callings.

We would like to thank the many friends and family members for their love and concern as well as Hospice, and other health professionals for the wonderful care they provided for Rex.
